| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2019 | 39 Racquet Club The final dog days of summer brought us an exciting pickleball tournament expertly run and managed by Cliff and Peggy Singh and a host of volunteers. We cheered the winners and players with a pizza and salad dinner and gathered in companionship to enjoy our friends whether we won or lost! The well-deserved winners on each level were: Advanced First Place: Fred Savage and Richard Rogstad. Advanced Second Place: Harvey Bernstein and Sid Saltzman Intermediate Competitive Round Robin: 1st John Crow, 2nd Karen Burke and 3rd Carol Alberts. Intermediate Social Round Robin: 1st Steve Pyle, 2nd David Johnson and 3rd Phylis Lemberg. Novice Play Round Robin: 1st Man Lee, 2nd Tom Porter. Early August saw the Racquet Club enjoy their "Celebrate OHCC Sports and Games" Summer Party on the Lanai where we all commemorated Herb's Wall of Fame at a catered dinner and dance where our own H Squared band (Harvey Bernstein and Howard Laurence) played dance tunes to take us into the evening breezes. It was Herb's award night to give out many plaques to those that have assisted him through his 10 years of being President of the Racquet Club and those that have preceded him and helped build the club into the force that it is today. It was an eloquent tribute from the heart! The New Drop-In Schedule for Pickleball and Tennis, as a reminder, is as follows: 1. Tennis Court 1 (T1) will become a Pickleball Open Play court from 9:30 am to noon Mondays - Saturdays except when classes or Racquet Club events are scheduled. Sundays remain Open Play Tennis or Pickleball all day by whichever players arrive first. If you want to play with guests, T1 is your morning option. Guests may not play during scheduled drop-ins. Also, Monday nights at T1 are scheduled for Novice/Beginner drop-in from 6:30 - 9 pm. 2. Advanced Pickleball Players are getting a dedicated evening playing slot at the Clubhouse courts. Tuesdays from 5:30 pm on will be Open Play - Advanced only at the Clubhouse courts. Paddle Tennis continues to play on Mondays at 9 am at the HOA courts. They offer instruction for novice players on one court and competitive play for those that are experienced on another court. If you're looking for a new racquet sport, it's a fun group!
