32 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2019 | We walk and hike every two weeks on alternating Thursdays and Fridays. The walk is typically one and a half to two miles on relatively level terrain. The hike is usually three and a half to four and a half miles with 200 to 500 feet of elevation gain. After the hike we go to lunch together for socializing and discussion of hike/walk. We hiked Mission Bay trail on Aug. 15. The weather was beautiful and the hike was quite enjoyable. On Aug. 29 we walked the Carlsbad State Beach. Because of the holiday weekend it was a small turnout. On Sept. 13 we hiked Batiquitos Lagoon. This month on Oct. 8 we will have our General Meeting, election of officers and annual picnic. We look forward to a great turnout for the picnic. Please go to the club website to sign up for the picnic and what you will be bringing for the potluck. On Oct. 24 we will hike Lower Santa Ynez Trail. The new schedule and any updated information will be posted on the web at: www.ohwh-club.com/walkers-hikers/schedule sometime this month. For each hike we meet at 8:30 am in the overflow parking lot by the Clubhouse and car pool to and from the hike. Passengers give the driver some cash for gas. Always bring water, a hat, sunscreen and sturdy shoes. Walkers and Hikers Genealogy Interest Group The Genealogy Interest Group is a group of individuals that want to find out about their heritage. Who were your ancestors, where they lived and what they did. The group provides tools to do your search and help in getting started or suggestions to the experienced to breakthrough a stumbling block to another generation. The Genealogy Interest Group meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 10 am to noon with a short presentation genealogical current topics and a help session answering questions the attendees have. We offer a second two hour period of individual help each month, date and time to be announced on the TAG calendar. We have available free on the computers in the lab for use of the residents, the World Explorer version of Ancestery.Com, a search engine for finding your ancestors. (Individual subscription about $100 a month.) We offer the Family Tree Maker program on several of the computers in the Computer Lab to catalog your family tree data and present your tree data. The coordinators are Dorothy Miller and Don Wirth. Help sessions will add Peggy Singh. Contact us at ohccgen@gmail.com The September meeting will be postponed to Sept. 11, due to the Labor Day holiday. Regular first Wednesday schedule will resume in October. We hope your autumn is off to a beautiful start. We want to invite you to our Oct. 14 general meeting, where you will hear of the exciting adventure that Dee Wardell and Joe Ashby took to Egypt this year. Our doors open at 6:30 pm with a social time of coffee and goodies, and the meeting will start at 7 pm. We will have the official vote for the 2020 slate of Travel Club Board of Directors, a brief update on trips and then on to seeing and hearing about a far away place (Egypt.) We hope you have turned in your recent survey as we make plans for 2020. We are sure the new board would love to begin making plans and arrangements as soon as possible. ~ Judy, Donna, Lynn, Callie and Susan Travel Club
