How much do you know about American
country music? If you happened to catch
the Ken Burns seven-part documentary
recently on PBS, you were well on your way
to knowing so much more about American
country music than you could even imagine.
This program is so awesome as it takes you
from the roots of country music, from church
spirituals to Appalachian Blue grass music right through the legends
and pioneers of this long honored music and its evolution. Some of
the artists mentioned and reviewed were Bill Monroe, Elvis, Johnny
Cash, Marty Robbins Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee, Wanda Jackson,
Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Buck Owens, Dolly
Parton, Charlie Pride, The Judds, The Everly Brothers, Ricky Skaggs,
Vince Gill,Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, Faron Young, Willie Nelson,
Emmylou Harris, Reba McEntire, George Strait, and many, many
more. It was a huge undertaking and rare photos, video clips and
recordings really made this show a respectable work worth watching.
It was so good I wouldn't mind watching it again.
Which brings us to another question, do you
like to sing a country song now and then? Well
a great place to showcase your voice is at Sun
Lakes Goodtimes Karaoke with Rosie Ingalls,
Barb Miller and D.J. Blast. This month
our karaoke events will be
in the South Clubhouse
on Sat., Nov. 16 and
again in the South Clubhouse on
Fri., Nov. 22. Our events are from
5:30 to 9 pm.
So hopefully you will join us and
try out a country song or any other
genre, or even come out and watch.
Either way we know it will be a nice
time for you. Best of all it's free.
Whatever you decide, we will
always keep a mic on for you.
