The International Dancers of Sun Lakes are beginning another exciting year with members actively involved learning new dances for their 2020 show. The spectacular "Jasmine Fan Dance," directed by Joan Lau, is a main attraction in the Sun Lakes Follies on Nov. 8 and 9. Thank you, Joan, for representing IDS in the Follies and for many years of support to our group. The same appreciation is extended to Nora Huffman, Susana Arzubiaga, Perla Williams and Penny Skog. We welcome Jean Court as our new coordinator for American dance. She possesses a wealth of knowledge from her 30-plus years of dance, including her own studio. For information about International Dancers of Sun Lakes, call Diane Rossovich, Director, at (530) 913-8758, Lily Fedotowsky, Assistant Director, at (941) 662-0633 or any of the coordinators in the yellow box at right. Vanessa Valbalos, of Riverside, will continue to teach Flamenco. A Folkloric coordinator will be announced at a later date, as well as possible new Latin dances. 36 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2019 | Pro Dancer Rene Rivera has been doing a fantastic job for the Stardust Dancers with his Social Dance Class. For those of you who have not attended these very popular classes, don't miss out on the Nov. 10 and Dec. 8 classes from 4 to 6 pm at the South Clubhouse. Partners are not needed, as all steps are taught on an individual basis, as well as with a partner. Evelyn Hawkins partners with Rene to demonstrate the patterns and steps. Recent instruction has been on West Coast swing, East Coast Swing, Cha Cha and Slow Dance. Renee has won many awards in competition. He will be competing again soon in Palm Springs and Los Angeles. He is also the Dance Host for the ICC club, dancing with all interested singles who attend. Stardust Dancers have perfected their "One" number and "Como La Fleur" dance for the upcoming Follies Show — 20 of the members will be dancing in these numbers, showcasing two very different styles of dance. New members are always welcome. New dancers can reach instructor Evelyn Hawkins at (951) 845-7199. All are welcome. Beginner classes are open now.
