| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2019 | 35 Founders Duplicate Bridge Friday Duplicate Bridge With sadness we report the passing of our long time member, Michael Brown. Michael was an original founder of the Founders Duplicate Bridge Club. He was an active member of our club, always courteous as an opponent and supportive as a partner, a true gentleman. We all miss him and convey our sincerest condolences to LaVergne Brown and family. If you are a current intermediate duplicate player, a rubber bridge player who wants to learn the duplicate game, or a former bridge player (college maybe?) or taking bridge classes here at OHCC, then come join us. We are a friendly bunch. We play every Tuesday at 6:30 pm (Check in at 6:15 pm) at Abravanel Hall or the Mykonos room. Player donation of $3 is requested. Please bring correct amount. Annual dues are $6. For partnership arrangements please contact Phyllis Skall, (858) 405-2684 or email pskall@yahoo.com. Please join us! We offer a Duplicate Bridge game that combines the superior scoring of Duplicate Bridge but also has the friendlier and non- aggressive attitude of home style Rubber Bridge. With Duplicate Bridge, your true opponents are the pairs that hold the same cards as you would rather than your opponents at the table. We are not an ACBL game and for that, we not only offer an extremely reasonable game price of just $2, but also give cash awards to the winners. If you are interested, please call John Gates at (760) 295-5885, the president of this bridge club, to see if this type of game might meet your expectations. We are relatively small and have anywhere from five to eight tables. The games are at 1 pm on the second, fourth, and fifth Fridays of the month in Mykonos. You do not have to join this club to play your first game, however if you decide to join the annual dues are $6. Bingo To the right is a picture of a happy Herb and Gerry Livsey (Herb is President of the Racquet Club). They have just won $400 in aggregate at Bingo on Sept. 26 — Gerry won $100 in an earlier game, and Herb won the "Black-Out" game, the last of the evening, the prize for which was a whopping $300. Not bad for a $16 investment and free ice cream at intermission. There are 10 games each with a different design across the numbers which one must be able to cover based on the numbers called at random by our very professional callers led by Greg Coffey. There are six squares on each card therefore, 6 opportunities to win each game. Herb was guaranteed the $300 prize. However, should he have completed covering all the numbers called in 50 or 55 numbers or less, he could have won $1,000 or $500 respectively in 2019, we had two $500 winners. The prize amounts are directly affected by the number of attendees, there were 190 people on Sept. 26 so the lowest payout was $90 and the highest was $300 to Herb. We paid out a total of $1,350 on Saturday for all 10 games. The first game scheduled in 2020 is Jan. 18 at 6:30 pm in the Abravanel Hall. Let's smash that 200 figure to keep those prize amounts up. ~ Bob Ferrol, Treasurer Sept 9: Howell: tie Mike Stern / Phyllis Skall Heidi Kuhn / Irma Maston Sept 10: Howell: Fred McGarvey / Valerie Gwin Sept. 17: Howell: Nancy Busher / Mary Sullivan Sept. 24: Howell: Phyllis Skall / Mike Stern High score for the month: 69.44% F r e d McGarvey / Valerie Gwin September Winners:
