50 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2019 WE WERE BUSY IN 2019! There are many reasons why you should join the African-American Cultural Club (AACC). Let me give you a few: you get to meet new people, gain new skills, have a lot of fun, and make friends for life. Our club is comprised of different types of people coming together to participate in African-American culture. Together, we devise exciting and creative ways to share the Black experience through education and social events. Once you get involved and socialize with our members you will realize the value of the friendships you can develop and you will be happy to join our club and invite others to join as well. February is Black History Month. Earlier this year, the AACC held two events: a weekly film festival and our famous 'Taste of Soul' event. The film festival was held in the Four Seasons Theater with a lively open discussion after each movie. We curated nine films; 'Black Panther, Vanguard of a Revolution' and 'The Spook Who Sat by the Door', were the most popular movies. Our 'Taste of Soul' extravaganza was held in the Ballroom. There we had assorted African-American dishes, entertainment, and several different forms of fun and lively activities. In April, we sponsored a Wine and Words event with the Taste d'Vine Wine Club. The Writers' Club participated as well! In June we held our annual Juneteenth Celebration at The Summit with BBQ, music, and dancing. In October, we sponsored "Music under the Stars," an outdoor concert with the Social Committee. In December we will have Annual Christmas Gala, which we are known for. The theme is the "Harlem Renaissance." Feel free to dress from the 1920s. As you can see, we do not exclude anyone; our events are designed to bring people and other clubs together as a happy Four Seasons family. Our next meeting is Jan. 6, 2020, in The Lodge Game Room at 6 pm. We will be hosting a meet and greet activity to introduce our newly elected board members to the public. We will also be having a special Kwanzaa presentation. Invite a friend and you will have an opportunity to win some nice prizes. Come and join us, it will be an exciting and rewarding experience. For more information please contact Joyce Allen (951)769-4354 or Roxy Elliot at (951) 769-2517. ~ Regina Thomas African American Cultural Club Every Wednesday evening members of our club participate in what we call "the nets." At 5:45 pm, we fire up our Family Radio Service (FRS) radios and test them by checking in with other club members. It's an opportunity to make sure our radios are in good working order and also to share information and announcements regarding the club and other radio activities at Four Seasons. At 6 pm, our FCC-licensed members check in to the second network using their FM radios operating in the VHF band. These weekly communications events maintain our operating knowledge and techniques and are a great way to stay in touch and keep up to date. It's a lot of fun and ensures our capability to be of assistance to the HOA and management in the event of an emergency. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, come to our Jan. 31 meeting in the RCN Conference Room at 10 am. ~Jim Peterson, jimsally@hotmail.com RADIO CLUB Our newest club member, Henry Ciesielski, KN6CQL demonstrates operation of his new radio AACC Members Elaine Brown and Les Mays AACC members Howard Shelton, Greta Shelton, David Miller, Joy Fields, Ralph Bonner, & Myrtis Suggs
