38 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2019 Computer & Technology Class On Nov. 12, Judy Taylor, of the SVC Computer Club, treated our Computer and Technology Class to a super-informative presentation entitled, "Your Identify Isn't Safe, Even After You've Died." Her presentation related to "Digital Asset Estate Planning;" a subject which many of us were interested in learning more about. DAEP covers the various ways one's identity can be stolen, and suggests strategies we can take to prevent it from being stolen after we are no longer here. In the tech world, it is called "ghosting" because it can sometimes take six months for credit-reporting bureaus and/or the Social Security Administration to receive, share, and register death records. Criminals, therefore, have ample time to do their dastardly deeds before grieving survivors have an opportunity to take proper charge of the deceased's business affairs. Our class meets the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 am in the RCN. If you have even the simplest question(s) about computer technology, we encourage you to visit and let us hear them; and/or contact Larry Workman at larry.workman@gmail.com, if there is a certain subject you would like to have covered in one of our classes. ~ Larry Workman We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am in the RCN room #3. Newcomers are always welcome, even if you haven't read the book. Our selection for December is Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. Here is a brief description of the book from Amazon.com: "Memphis, 1939. Twelve-year-old Rill Foss and her four younger siblings live a magical life aboard their family's Mississippi River shanty boat. But when their father must rush their mother to the hospital one stormy night, Rill is left in charge — until strangers arrive in force. Wrenched from all that is familiar and thrown into a Tennessee Children's Home Society orphanage, the Foss children are assured that they will soon be returned to their parents — but they quickly realize the dark truth. At the mercy of the facility's cruel director, Rill fights to keep her sisters and brother together in a world of danger and uncertainty. Based on one of America's most notorious real-life scandals — in which Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country — Lisa Wingate's riveting, wrenching, and ultimately uplifting tale reminds us how, even though the paths we take can lead to many places, the heart never forgets where we belong." Please join us when we discuss this book on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 9:30 am. Genie Cooper will be leading the discussion. For those of you who like to read ahead, our book for January is scheduled to be The Rent Collector by Camron Wright.
