Another "Pawsome" Year for Tails & Trails Tails & Trails would like to thank Four Seasons residents, leadership, and management for all the support given our service efforts. Community support has affected the lives of 80 Four Seasons pets and their people, as well as a number of "foundlings," for the better. We have worked on recovering lost pets, rehoming, adoption, transportation, fostering, and training. We subsidize non-profit organizations with donations to underwrite the cost of medical, food, and equipment needs for animals who have come into our care. Our Coins for Critters and Harvest Craft Fair fundraisers have provided the resources that make such activity possible. Educational programs delivered during our general meetings have addressed a range of topics from training, health and wellness assessments, proper nutrition, grief over the loss of a pet, how to safely secure a lost/found animal, and how to travel safely and enjoyably with your pet(s). Our Facebook community is full of great information, fun posts, and neighborly pet-inspired love. We have strengthened relationships with rescues and rescue partners, building a network that facilitates safe and lawful care for animals in need. In March, we worked with independent volunteer residents and Ramona Humane Society the "Walk for the Animals" fundraiser. We also have finalized detailed documentation for our Pet Recovery Task Force, which depends heavily on collaboration with Ramona Humane Society, Save a Small Dog Rescue, and Beaumont Animal Control. We also have some very dedicated members who have worked on efforts to secure a safe and attractive off-leash area (OLA). Our members have served alongside other residents on the Ad Hoc Off- Leash Area Rules Committee and provide professional perspective and expertise on multiple aspects of this project. After all, off-leash areas are thought to be a huge draw by many realtors, especially to accommodate "Millennials" coming in to Four Seasons behind the "Boomers." Rough estimates, based upon formulas provided by the American Veterinary Medical Association, show that as many as 600 households (maybe more in our age demographic) in Four Seasons likely have at least one dog. Can it be any wonder why Tails & Trails considers our work on this project to be well worth the time and effort? With gratitude for the past, we are anxious to see what the future will bring. Thank you! These new stop signs are definitely slowing traffic and provide a safer means to cross Four Seasons Circle at these intersections. However, pedestrians should not presume that all cars will stop at these signs! Always be vigilant and alert and do not presume a car will stop for you. The more that pedestrians use these specified crosswalks, the more that drivers will come to be attentive for pedestrians crossing there. Please be careful out there and only cross the street, particularly Four Seasons Circle, at an intersection. Please be courteous and avoid crossing mid-block on any street. This can be dangerous and puts both pedestrians and drivers at risk. The Dog Owners Group will continue to monitor the need for additional stop signs and crosswalks on Four Seasons Circle and approach the appropriate HOA committees if necessary. Suggestions for additional crossings can be sent to the Dog Owners Group at the email address below. Pack Walks: All dogs and non-dog owners are welcome and we practice techniques to calm barking dogs • Saturday morning, 8 am, meet in front of The Lodge building (walks last 30 to 45 minutes) • Wednesday evening, 4 pm, meet at The Summit parking lot (walks last 15 to 30 minutes) • Please, no retractable leashes ~ Patrick and his dog, Ricky Ricardo: dog_owners@yahoo.com 40 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2019 Tails & Trails - All Pets Dog Owners Group
