36 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2019 | A regular five handicap golfer teed off on number eight and hit into a clump of trees. Undaunted, she found her ball and saw a small opening between the tree trunks. Got her hybrid out and hit it as hard as she could, unfortunately it hit the tree and bounced back striking her in the center of her forehead. Soon after, she saw the pearly gates and St Peter waiting for her. I have only one question Peter said: Are you really a good golfer? To which she proudly replied: YES, I GOT HERE IN TWO, DIDN'T I. And speaking of dramatic shots, how about the one sunk at the CARTMART special tournament coordinated by none other than Peter and Judy Fry. And on that, not so easy, fourth hole. It was the only hole-in-one during that great tournament. The foursome teed off and walked down to the green and lo and behold, there was Sherri McDaniel's ball resting happily in the cup. Now Sherri, pictured left with one of her favorite golf partners, who, by the way, does have an astronomical handicap, is the proud winner of $25 in addition to her tournament winnings. OK, time for new news: A camera has been installed showing the entrance to the course. So, you can now go online and look for signs that tell you about ice delays, inclement weather cancellation, and other information about the course. Including if your upset foursome is already there waiting for you. It does not invade your privacy by keeping film of you but only records that instant. To get there, turn on your computer, and go to our golf website and scroll till you get to the instant picture of the entrance. If you are still having trouble finding it, ask your nine-year-old grandchild to help you. She knows it all. Thought I would also tell you the news about "holes in 1" each month. So, for September - October: Marilyn Vetlesen on 17, Sherri McDaniel on 4, Bruce Barnum on 7, and lastly Sally Palmer on 16. I mentioned Sally's only because she is my neighbor and she would beat me with a 3 wood if I didn't include her. In traveling amateurs at Shadowridge [par72] the low gross winners: Mike and Linda Ball with Tex and Karen Burke. The low net winners: Jim Mulvey, Natalie Sentz, Mark and Teresa Deutman. The last interesting game that happened in October was the Spooktacular Tournament on the 30th and, yes, the dress code was Orange and the new Black. There was too much fun, with salsa and chips, and more importantly margaritas all around. A big thank you to Debbie Machnick and her crew of dedicated helpers. Only negative feedback was "more chips, fewer Cheetos." Anyhow, there were lots of winners as there were four flights, but only one team won the putting contest (pictured below), and that was the team of Judy Fry, Darleen Kelch, Helen Sloan, and Barb Thompson. This is my first column for the Golf Club and as you can easily see, I will be giving NO advice on how to play. Also, you might notice my tongue is in my cheek. So, if you have any serious comments about this article, please keep them to yourself. If, on the other hand, you have some smart-aleck comments, send them to me at bbopalua@ yahoo.com. ~ Hal Golf Club
