It's a new year and, perhaps, you're considering joining a committee at Four Seasons to become more involved in your community. If you like gardening and have an interest in maintaining the beauty of our little slice of Beaumont, the Landscape Committee may be for you! For many residents, the beautiful aesthetic of Four Seasons was a big reason for deciding to relocate here. Why not take a more active role in preserving and improving this important asset? While membership requires committee and Board approval, it's an easy and straightforward process. Prospective members must answer a few simple questions regarding their interest in joining, accompany the group on three Friday walks through areas of the community, and attend three monthly meetings. Inclusion in these committee activities gives you a good introduction to the group and its functions, and a good idea of its suitability to your interests. So, what are the responsibilities for this committee? The overall objective is to maintain the community aesthetic in all HOA- maintained areas. This includes areas that are shared by the entire community (including grounds at The Lodge, Summit, and Courts, as well as slopes, parkways, trails, and islands of landscape throughout the development). Also included are some selected areas of the community in which the HOA is responsible for front yard landscaping tasks (termed "cost center" areas). This committee has no responsibility for issues related to homewoner-maintained front yards or for any backyard landscaping. To accomplish its goals, committee members, a representative from FirstService, and a representative of one of our three landscape contractors walk different areas of the community every Friday, looking at the health of plantings and identifying potential problems with irrigation or with the quality of maintenance. Additionally, the committee checks on specific issues that have been brought to their attention by either FirstService or one of the contractors. Some issues can be immediately addressed with the contractor during the walks, while others are tabled for discussion at the next monthly meeting, after more information has been gathered. Members of the committee are committed to getting the best aesthetic result at the most reasonable cost. The landscape budget at Four Seasons is large, but so are the expectations of homeowners in this community. Our contractors have told us that other communities under their care ask to get a result that "looks like Four Seasons Beaumont." Why not consider becoming involved and helping to keep FSB an example of excellence? ~ Steve Stoecklein Landscape Committee FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2020 21
