FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2020 51 The 4x4 Seasons Off-Road club has enjoyed an active November and December. Since the high elevation forestry roads are snowed in and closed, we've made multiple trips east to tour the mines in the high desert, between Joshua Tree National Park and Twentynine Palms. We are fortunate to be within an hour of the high desert. These gold mines are the real deal and still as they were back in the 1800s. Armed with a helmet and flashlight, watch your step and come on in. You can drop a rock into a vertical shaft and hear it fall for 10 to 20 seconds. At 32' per second, do the math. It's a deep hole. It has not been vandalized because access is not easy. The season is short due to the 100+ degree summer heat. Planning, mapping, and good vehicle maintenance is a must. You would never want to explore this wilderness alone, however as a club we make it a very safe, enjoyable trip. Did I mention the rattlesnakes? Anyone not in the club who would like to come out and see what we do, meetings are the first Tuesday of the month at 6 pm in The Lodge Arts & Crafts Room. The Thursday following the Tuesday meeting is our official 4x4 outing. Going out once a month is not enough for some, so we'll get together on short notice for a day trip, or with a little planning, something overnight. ~ Scott Snyder, scottdonaldsnyder@gmail.com 4x4 Seasons All Seasons RV I hope your holidays were wonderful and filled with pleasant memories. The RV group traveled to Pechanga in November and we had one of our largest rallies this year with more than 10 couples joining us. We had an event-filled breakfast sponsored by the Browers and a great barbecue dinner. Several members won money in the casino, some played golf, and others explored the area, with not much wine tasting. Pechanga Resort is always one of the best, and the weather was great except for a rainy day. The Campout Committee has proposed several campouts in 2020 and all are welcome to come to the meeting to hear what is planned. We meet the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm in The Lodge, or you can contact Bob Cooper at (951) 769-6352 or Larry Z at (909) 553-2798 for more information. ~ Larry Z 4x4 Seasons enjoyed traveling to high desert locations in November and December Unfortunately Mother Nature did not cooperate with us as it rained most of the day and we had to cancel our Dec. 7 gathering. Our next gathering "weather permitting" will be held on Jan. 4. We meet at The Lodge parking lot the first Saturday of each month at 9 am. Contact Rick Morales (951) 255-4710 or Frank Morales (951) 203-4578 for additional information. Wishing everyone a happy and safe new year. See you all next year! ~ Frank Morales CARS & COFFEE
