60 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2020 Happy New Year to all Bocce Ball Players and those interested in joining us for a fun game of Bocce Ball. Winter is here so the weather has not been great for playing but we're still having enough people show up to play. Bocce Ball is played at The Summit, 9 am Tuesdays and Fridays, 3 pm Wednesdays. Everyone is welcome. We play on beautiful, tournament-grade courts with sideboards. Easy small step-in and ramps for wheelchairs or scooters. Smooth concrete surrounds courts. The word "bocce" comes from an Italian word which is plural, meaning "to bowl." The small white ball, the pallino, is thrown first to start the game. Rules are very simple. Get your ball as close to the pallino as possible in order to score a point. If more balls of same color get closer, these are additional points. We generally play games to 12 points. Two games are played and take approximately 1 and a 1/2 hours. First court winners stay and are challenged on second game by winners from the second court. We mix and match so no team has an advantage, and we change numbers on a team so no one is left out. If you are interested in learning the game, please join us. I found out I might have surgery on my left… ? Happy New Year to all my fishing friends and neighbors. Also Happy New Year to all the great people who live here at Four Seasons. I hope that you had a wonderful year, that you got all your new fishing equipment for Christmas, and you are ready to go out and catch a bunch of trophy fish. My wife did not get me any new rods or reels for Christmas this year. Instead, she got me a brand new fishing truck. Great life, great wife. Now, all my friends who go fishing with me can go in "reel" style. I got rubber mats and spray-coated rubber in the bed so I can wash out the smell after we fish. I have begged my wife to go fishing with me and she still won't go. She does not want to hurt the fish by putting hooks in their mouths. When it comes to eating fish, that is a different story. Maybe she will come with me and watch me catch the fish that she will dine on. Trout season is going strong at this time. Almost all the lakes around here are stocking some nice rainbow trout. When you use light line and ultra- lite tackle, you can have a blast catching some of these delicious fish. My wife still wants me to catch Bluegill because she loves to eat them whole — eyes and all. Last year was a great year for catching fish; and this year should be even better. I have had a few more guys ask about the fishing club and going fishing. I try to call all my fishing friends when we schedule a fishing trip. I always have believed that the more people who go fishing with you, the more fun you will have. Sometimes catching fish is not that important. The important thing about fishing is the conversations you have with your friends. The best part about fishing with me is going out to lunch or dinner after we're done fishing. There are so many good places to eat around here that it isn't even funny. In my next article, I will give you some tips on how to always bring home fish for dinner. Just be sure you have plenty of different baits and stay fishing as long as you can. Tight lines to all my fishing friends; and remember stay in touch with all your fishing buddies. Maybe sometime they will invite you to go fishing with them. ~ Richard Carrasco, ricarrasco52@gmail.com By the time you receive this, the holidays should be over and hopefully everyone shared time with friends and family. It is now time to make your New Year's resolutions, which hopefully include doing things to stay healthy, eat well, exercise, and getting enough rest. How about adding one of the most fun, fastest growing and easiest activities to your calendar? Shuffleboard is just that activity. We play at 9 am on Monday and Saturday mornings. This is an easy game to learn if you have never played it before. Your skill level can improve quickly while you get some exercise. Each time we play, we choose different teams so that you are always playing with different partners. That way, you get to socialize with friends and get to know other Four Seasons residents. We are always looking for new people to come out and join us. If you have any questions, please call Marty Rotman at (310) 948-1693 or email mrtmj@aol.com. ~ Marty Rotman, mrtmj@aol.com Shuffleboard
