6 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JANUARY 2020
By Clare Mendez, Resident
The Solera Diamond Valley Veterans and Friends Club hosted its
annual luncheon in November and was well attended by 150 veterans
and their family members. Raul Villa, the Club Event Coordinator, put
together a memorable event including some remarkable visual slide
shows honoring the Solera veterans and their families.
After all the guests were checked in, and after the presentation of
the colors by West Valley High School ROTC, Steve Day provided the
Invocation reminding us that "we were honoring those who served our
country and sacrificed their lives so that we may still live in freedom."
The guest of honor at the luncheon was Don Trumble, a good
friend of our neighbor and Veteran Club member Bill Winslow. Mr.
Trumble was a WWII Army Veteran who survived the Normandy
battle. At the Veteran's Day Luncheon he was presented with a small
glass bottle of sand from the beaches at Normandy and will also have
a memorial brick with his name engraved and placed at the WWII
National Memorial in New Orleans.
The Veterans Day event was concluded with the much anticipated
presentation of the Quilts of Valor given out by the SDV Quilting Club.
