A familiar sentiment is that wet winters are good for Southern California. Every member of the Four Seasons Motorcycle Club agrees with this with one exception; we hate rain on Thursdays because that is when we meet up for our weekly ride. So far we've been pretty lucky, even though it's been pretty chilly out there, we've been able to get some Thursday rides in with relatively dry road conditions. On a recent Thursday, we headed up to Idyllwild via Highway 243. This highway recently reopened after having been shut down for several months for resurfacing. This particular ride is always enjoyable given the beautiful scenery coupled with a lot of fun twists and turns. However, now that a fresh layer of smooth asphalt has been added to the mix, well, it just doesn't get any better on a motorcycle. In short, the ride up the mountain was a blast. We don't know how many more opportunities we'll get during the course of the wet winter months but we'll be sure to make another run up the mountain when spring rolls around. If you ride and have thought about becoming a member of the Four Seasons Motorcycle Club, a good way to learn more about the club is to join us on one of our Thursday rides. We meet up a few minutes before 9am in The Lodge parking lot for a quick briefing on the day's route and are on the road promptly at 9 am. These weekly rides are generally 150 to 200 miles in length and we always include a stop for breakfast or lunch; we usually get back home by mid-afternoon. As for our weekly destination, we tend to avoid the high mountain elevations during the winter months due to possible icy road conditions. Otherwise, the possible destinations for our Thursday rides are almost endless. As for your particular ride, chances are you will fit right in because we aren't particular. Our club is made up of full blown touring machines, adventure bikes, cruisers, sport bikes and trikes. And speaking of your particular ride, the word is out that club member Bill Steele has given up his Harley Davidson trike for a brand new shiny black Harley Davidson Heritage. Congratulations on your new ride, Bill! ~ Jim Ayala, jimrayala95@gmail.com 50 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2020 Motorcycle club Taking a break in Idyllwild.
