38 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2020 | We held our final meeting in November with the evening program spent recognizing and awarding members for their participation as outstanding volunteers or for their excellent sailing efforts. Bill Crosby, Donna Misterly, Gail Miscioscia, Larbi Loucif, and Willy Sernesi, were recognized for their service all year in various positions and our bartender George Bush was thanked as he was retiring after four years. Our "Eight Bell's" trophy, awarded for outstanding participation in sailing during the year, was given to Capts. Jim Barbee, Gerry Gorman and Larry Sea as well as best crew members Paula and Chris Burdy and Mickey Geller. A new trophy this year, the "Grub and Grog Award" for outstanding party hosting went to Daniel Sansoni, Gloria Loucif, Carrie McBride, and Ros Nesler. Then there was a special Appreciation Plaque awarded to Bob Kopolow for his many years of faithful service to the club and his retirement as he and his wife Sue are moving. Our food hostess ladies were also recognized for wonderful food provided during the year. We finally thanked our "heavy lifting officers" Evy Sanfilippo, Jim Barbee, Allan Paloutzian, Forrest Newburg, and Sally Booth. The awards completed and a bottle of wine handed out to everyone, the club then "battened down the hatches" for the winter months of no sailings, until March 2020. Do Dues Day went well with 14 new, first time members coming onboard, along with returning members signing up. Bill Crosby is organizing a member's excursion to visit the USCG facility in San Diego soon and I will be arranging our summer party with the theme of Jimmy Buffet's "Escape to Margaritaville" with his "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" music, dancing, games, and Parrothead hats. We hope you will come join us. We meet the first Tuesday of every other month at 7 pm in Abravanel Hall starting in February let's cast off all lines and get underway... ~ Commodore Forrest Newburg Sailing Club
