8 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2020 | By the OHCC Clubhouse Interior Design Committee A few years ago, the HOA Board of Directors determined it was time to make improvements and create a fresh interior design in the Clubhouse per the CC&R requirements. The funding was specifically set aside in the budget for this need. In 2017, a previous contracted designer's vision was presented to residents in an open meeting in Abravanel Hall. This design plan was rejected as too institutional. The audience vocally expressed their desires for the Clubhouse to reflect the "country club" richness our name suggests, with a welcoming, comfortable, functional design. In 2018, a new Ad-Hoc Interior Design Committee was created, and the new direction of the Committee was to "mine the gold" in our community for this group, which would include two professional interior designers and other members with backgrounds in style, design, business and construction, to name a few. The new Interior Design Committee and Board of Directors overseeing the project began their meetings. Issues to be addressed were: refining the correct style for the community and its residents; and creating a new, inviting environment for socializing and participating in the many club meetings and events held in the Clubhouse each year. The initial concern was the groundwater under the Clubhouse. Tests were performed, and the solutions were found before going forward with design decisions. The new floor would have a warrantied water barrier base. With the expertise in the group, members worked cooperatively together to identify design components consistent with the previously stated desires of the residents. The Interior Design Committee members have each spent hundreds of hours in meetings, sharing ideas, visiting sites to see design elements first hand, and preparing presentations for open community meetings to share the ideas. Two open-meeting presentations were held in Abravanel Hall with a followup film playing on channel 1960 for those who could not attend the meetings. A colorful, multi-page article also appeared in OHCC Living. The Committee welcomed all responses, positive or negative, to the ideas presented. Hundreds of written responses were received after the presentations, and they were all considered. The Committee always held the belief that the community's input was crucial to creating a satisfactory outcome. The architecture of our villages offered cues to develop style elements for the design concept - coastal Mediterranean details from Greece to Spain. The Committee members shared inspiration photos, took field trips to other large resorts, and searched furniture and flooring sources to create an overall feel for the project. From images in their research, the colors of the various Mediterranean coastlines and villages were determined. Under the guidance of our experienced interior designers, the Committee then made final choices as to the furniture styles, fabric colors and patterns, and artwork to be purchased to complete the desired effect. The culmination of all these efforts is finally here, as work begins on the Clubhouse interior design in January 2020. What residents will experience will be an enhanced appearance of richness, comfort, beauty and function. Style and color will flow through the Clubhouse interior, with color emphasis changing in different areas, yet maintaining the overall color palette. A summary of the redesigned areas is as follows: Interior Paint: Cream walls with light beige trim colors and accent walls Entryway: New front doors and matching arched upper windows in rich, brown wood with large windows enhanced with scrolled, black, wrought iron inserts—new, rich, medium brown "wood" floor tiles that will carry throughout the Clubhouse main areas and harmonize with the existing flooring in activity rooms and library — both entryway niches to have a pair of transitional style wing chairs in blue and beige separated by a classic credenza under the existing mirror and sconces — a large, classic chandelier hanging from the ceiling Guild Hall (hallway to the restrooms): New artwork and reupholstered bench in shades of blue, green, orange, beige and cream Reception Desk & Front Office: Remodeled, desk construction with new counters and cabinets — solid cream/beige quartz surfaces with variegated granite in blues, browns, and creams on the desk outside-wall faces The Greenery Lounge: To the left of Abravanel Hall will be a large water feature surrounded by upholstered chairs and art pieces designed as a social, computer-work area in shades of blue, blue- green, rust and cream — at the granite-topped tables there will be new chair cushions in a rust, green, blue-green, and gold pattern to enhance the bar and art to be placed here and a refurbished bar with new interior cabinets, down-lights, framed mirrors and sconces Information Hallway: New benches along the windows for resting or reading the electronic news board, furniture grade wood information racks and shelves for poster display The Grand Galleria: Large, mid-blue shaded carpet inset into the brown tile flooring, two conversation groupings placed at each end of the "area rug" consisting of sofa and two chairs using the same palette of rust, blue, green, and gold, added overhead wood beams and large, rich chandeliers, large, commissioned painting to coordinate the Grand Galleria decor and room for tables and chairs as needed for activities The Men's and Ladies' Clubrooms: carpeting as in the Grand Galleria, cream wall paint, shutters repaired and new window coverings, art and new lighting Other Enhancements: LED ceiling lights throughout, plants and pots, art, technology outlets and new furniture as needed Committee Members: Judy Caston, Judy Graham, Kathi Harper, Rena Lipkin, Betsy Murphy, Tom Murphy, Peggy Newburg, Chris Ross, NancyTrimino Ocean Hills Clubhouse Renovation
