Village Vets
Thank You Ocean Hills for another great Do Dues Day. For starters
this year, Ocean Hills Village Vets Club has 173 members including
37 new members. We have some exciting plans
and speakers for 2020. If you didn't get the
opportunity to join us on Do Dues Day, you
can leave a check for $10 per person at the
Clubhouse front desk. Please mark on your
check "for dues" and have it placed in the
Village Vets envelope. We will contact you
for any additional information necessary,
to ensure you get our monthly "Bugle"
publication and email notices. We will
continue to send the Bugle to our past members
for a few more months, so please remember to bring
your membership to current status.
Mark your calendars, our first general meeting this year
will be on Thurs., Feb. 27 at 3 pm in Abravanel Hall. Our speaker
will be author Gail Chatfield. She is a native of Southern California
and received her Bachelor's Degree from San Diego State courtesy
of the G.I. Bill. For nearly 20 years she worked in the entertainment
industry in Los Angeles with positions at AFTRA, the William Morris
Agency and nearly ten years as the assistant to Farrah Fawcett.
Chatfield is the author of the award-winning
book By Dammit, We're Marines! Veterans
Stories of Heroism, Horror, and Humor
in World War II on the Pacific Front. As
a tribute to her father who served on
Iwo Jima, she has served on the board
of the Iwo Jima Reunion Committees
coordinating the largest gathering of
Iwo Jima veterans in the United States,
for their reunions held here in Oceanside.
This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the
Marines landing on Iwo Jima. Refreshments
will be available and doors open at 2:30 pm. I'm
sure you will enjoy this speaker. The commemoration
of the Battle on Iwo Jima will be celebrated at Camp Pendleton
from Feb. 12 through 16.
If you need a new American flag or assistance getting one installed,
please call Tom Brennan at (760) 842-1470. He will be happy to help.
