FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2020 7 Many thanks to all the friends and F.S. staff members who helped make Randy's celebration of life so memorable. Special thanks to each of you who contributed food to our family gathering. You know he enjoyed life and loved living here, where we truly have a community of caring. Sincerely, Sue Balt friends, and the community and that not having him would leave a hole. He had five words to describe his good friend: unabashed, unassuming, unwavering, unconstrained, and unapologetic. Jack and Linda often traveled with Sue and Randy, and Randy was just the same on a trip. Coming upon a statue of a discus thrower at Hearst Castle, Randy immediately jumped to mimic the statue. The Federoffs snapped a picture. Unabashedly very masculine, Randy was thrilled to be one of the Real Men of Four Seasons. Colin Taylor said that Randy always asked if he could wear a dress, heels, and a wig, no matter what the skit was. "He always looked funny, sometimes ridiculous, but never feminine. Maybe it was the goatee beard, and when wearing heels he was always on the brink of falling over." Trying to organize the Real Men was like trying to herd cats, and Randy was always the most mischievous one, according to Colin. "Every rehearsal and show with Randy was a funny, loud, raucous event. He really lived life to the fullest; he will be greatly missed." Randy was a complex person. Loud, full of laughter, the life of the party, very masculine and take-charge, he had another side. He helped others achieve their goals by being in the supporter role, stepping back and letting others shine. He worked in the corporate world until Sue confided that she really wanted to continue her education. The parents of two adored daughters, they had some complex problems to solve. And it was Randy who worked it out to run his business from home and to be the stay at home parent while Sue went back to school to earn her Master's degree and then a PhD. Sue said that Randy attended every event in which his girls participated. He loved being with family, and as time went by and in-laws and grandchildren became part of the picture, Randy's happiest moments were when hosting everyone, especially at Thanksgiving. There are so many more tales to tell, so many loving descriptions of this most interesting man. His and Len's daily swims and talks, Randy humorously blaming Linda Federoff for permanently hurting his hip by teaching him how to hula for a Real Men skit, stories of Randy's amazing loyalty and willingness to have his friends' and family members' backs no matter what, Sue's descriptions of Randy cooking, and on and on. Sue told me that Randy used to wonder why they needed their timeshares since living here was so beautiful, friendly, and interesting. Elizabeth Westbrook said that after she, Phillip, and Randy would conclude a swim, Randy would often say, "We're just so fortunate for these facilities. You can't ask for anything more. This is paradise." So thank you, Randy for adding so much light, love, leadership, and loyalty to our home, Four Seasons Beaumont. Your work and your memory will be treasured for many years to come. And when the sun shines, I will think of you walking into a room and lighting it up with your laugh and your sense of fun.
