58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2020 Wow, it's hard to believe we are already in 2020, remember how everything was going to fall apart in the year 2000? We're still plugging along! Curly Cues finished off 2019 with a Christmas luncheon and gift exchange at Marla's. We always have such fun just visiting with one another. I think we all look forward to our quarterly luncheons. Ladies, come join us, it's a great way to meet your neighbors! We started out this year with one of our favorite tournaments, Curly Cues vs the guys of Billiards For Fun! This event was held on Jan. 28. We had eight Curly Cues members and 12 BFF members. I am proud to say the winners of this year's tournament were our Curly Cues, Joy Collins and Leta Ramirez. Second place went to Dave Thomason and Michael Rothberg. We always have a great time, the guys cheer us on, and there is always lots of joking and teasing, however, this year there were no handicaps. It was decided that we didn't need any. Curly Cues meets every Monday at 11 am and we play for two hours. We pull peas at the beginning of the session to determine partners. This way everyone gets a chance to play together and get to know one another. We also have a 1 pm session, when we have enough women to play. There are usually about six of us and we play singles at this session. We hold quarterly tournaments and also have quarterly luncheons at local restaurants. Come join the fun ladies! For more information give us a call: Leta Ramirez at (626) 695-0798 or Pat Semler at (714) 325-5280. ~ Leta and Pat Curly Cues The Four Season 8-Ball Club holds two in-house tournaments each month. An 8-Ball tournament and a 9-Ball tournament. Most months we play four additional tournaments against Hemet (Solera) and Cherry Valley (Solera). Each community travels here once each month and we travel to their community once each month. They are great people and we have a great time, win or lose, but prefer the win. In 2019 the 8-Ball Club had a lot of fun playing against both Hemet (Solera) and Cherry Valley (Solera). We split the season with nine wins apiece against Hemet. Against Cherry Valley we did better winning 14 against seven wins for Cherry Valley. We had 10 players competing in the in-house 8-Ball tournament. Robert Howard won four in a row to get to the final. Ray Windhorn lost his first match but worked his way back by winning five in a row to meet Robert in the final. Robert continued his run to become this month's 8-Ball champion. Congratulations to Robert, champion, and Ray, this month's runner-up. The in-house 9-Ball tournament this month had nine players competing. In the first round Del Lyles sent Larry Rice into the loser bracket. Del continued to win three more matches to reach the final. Larry, with a lot of help from his opponents, worked his way back into the final by winning five in a row. Larry was able to win the first match and the rubber match to become this month's 9-Ball champion. Congratulations to Larry, 9-Ball champion, and Del Lyles, this month's runner-up. The 8-Ball Club is always looking for new Four Seasons residents who like to play pool to join us. The club plays or practices Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights 6:30 until 9 pm. There is a calendar of our events in the Billiards Room on the 8-Ball Club bulletin board. Just stop by and check us out. 8-Ball Club Officers: Captain Del Lyles, Sr. (951) 845-5114, Co-Captain Larry Rice (951) 236-1156. ~ Larry Rice The 8-Ball Club Curly Cues Tournament Players Leta Ramirez and Joy Collins First Place Larry Rice, 9-Ball Champion with Del Lyles, Runner-Up Robert Howard, 8-Ball Champion with Ray Windhorn, Runner-Up
