FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2020 59 All we can say about the Curly Cues invitational tournament held on Jan. 28, is that it was a total nail-biter! Okay, not because anyone was nervous or scary, but because it was so close! We started by introducing the Curly Cues members who joined us (8) and the Billiards for Fun players who signed up (12). As you can see, the BFFG group had more competitors, so we allowed the Curly Cues a triple elimination. The Curly Cues pulled peas first to determine partnerships, then the BFFG members drew peas as well. Since the Curly Cues had a slight advantage, the guys brought their A-game. Soon, there was only one Curly Cues partnership left: Leta Ramirez and Joy Collins. But none of the guys were yet eliminated via a double elimination, so the BFFG members all had a playoff. The last partnership standing was David Thomason and Michael Rothberg. (It took quite a while, but the ladies hung in there.) Leta and Joy played best two out of three against Dave and Michael. (This is where the nail-biting comes in.) The ladies took the first game, the guys took the second, so there was a third game. It was so very close that there was total silence in the usually very noisy Billiards Room! Then came time to pocket the 8-ball and the girls were up. Joy Collins made the shot, and she and Leta jumped up and down, hugged and screamed! (The jumping, screaming, and hugging were simultaneous). The Curly Cues prevailed: See photos of the winners. Everyone who participated played their best strategic game. Congratulations to all! If you are interested in playing pool with a great group of people, please consider joining the Billiards for Fun Group. We meet every Tuesday from 11 am to 1 pm or 1 to 3 pm (two sessions). Polish off your skills and meet with us soon! ~ Eileen Gilbert- Antoine, egcellent@msn.com Billiards for Fun Wild Bunch Billiards The "Wild Bunch" 8-Ball Billiards Group is geared for those individuals who want to play competitively with those of their skill level. We started the new year with inviting the best of the best from Sun Lakes and Solera to play in competition on Fridays, from 12:30 to 3:30 pm in our Billiards Room. It has been a great success with the skill levels ranging from Level 4 to Level 7. The "Wild Bunch" consists of some of the best players in the league: Joe Spinella, Lucas Don, Robert Howard, Bob Rector, Mike Corbett, Carlos Rivera, LeRoy Wright, Rocket Spinosa, and Gracy Luna. We will be having our 3rd Annual Wild Bunch Billiards Tournament in the April/May time frame. We will be competing with Sun Lakes and Solera, playing 8-Ball in the morning and 9-Ball in the afternoon. If you want to play serious, competitive pool, we invite you to come by the Billiards Room and join in the stimulation of competitive play. We do not play with partners; we play one-on-one with an opponent of your skill level. We are always looking for those who want to play competitively and, who knows, you just may want to change up your game and play on the team. And, most importantly, we have a good time! ~ Gracy Luna, gracyluna@aol.com Basketball Everyone is welcome. We meet at the basketball court Fridays starting at 4 pm. Bring your energy and be prepared to have some fun. ~ Richard Hoffman Leta Ramirez and Joy Collins David Thomason and Michael Rothberg
