28 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2020 | Knitters & Fiber Artists Sew What? Club February was off to a great start. Turning in lots star blocks for our Quilts of Valor. Also blocks coming in for our Tea cup quilt. This group is on a mission to enjoy our hobby and become better as we learn from each other. We have fun showing our Sew and Share. Join us on the first, third and fifth Mondays. Info., Jan Hamm (951) 212-6799 or Vivian Mrydah (636) 221-0872. We were so pleased with the number of people curious enough about our group to stop by our table during Activities Day. We talked to quite a few individuals (yes, some men too) about what we do. We have already welcomed one person into our group, with the hope that others will soon join us. It was so much fun to hear the stories of others. There seemed to be a common thread among the conversations we heard. During the late '80s-early '90s, the Scrapbooking craze took off. It was at that time many of us jumped on that bandwagon and started putting together our photo albums, each one more elaborate than the last. Every day, it seemed, there were more and more items (aka embellishments) available for us Scrappers to buy and add to our albums. And buy we did. Fast forward to the present, many folks are now inundated with vast supplies of papers, stickers, ribbons, stamps, punches, etc. We all kind of burned out on putting those extravagant albums together. But what to do with all the supplies? By being a member of the Scrapbookers, we have a dedicated time every week to work on those annoying projects that we once started and never completed. Or it can simply be a great way to start a new undertaking you have been thinking of tackling. When we are home we tend to put off working on things like that. Knowing we can join our fellow crafters for a couple hours a week makes it more fun and less like a chore. In addition, it's a social time to exchange ideas, maybe learn some new techniques and hear and see what others are crafting. Another great reason to join our group is that there are now so many other things to be created with all those supplies that are gathering dust in your closet. You can construct beautiful boxes from scratch, make your own journals, create your own greeting cards and tags, which not only saves you some money but enables you to give something handmade instead of store bought. Scrapbooking has evolved into so much more than what it used to mean, and I think that term can be misleading. It isn't just about albums anymore. It's about creating memories in whatever form you choose. Contacts are Elaine Perkins at (951) 334-3119 or Sallie Flesher at (951) 902-9768. Sun Lakes Quilters Scrapbooking The Spring Craft show is just a few days away on March 14th so we are busy sewing, stuffing and getting our projects ready to sell. Like every other group that uses the south wing of the clubhouse we have had to adjust our schedule to accommodate the "refreshing" so if anyone has come by to see us we hope that won't stop you from coming again starting this month (hopefully). Our meetings are from 12:30 to 2:30 each Tuesday afternoon in the Arts and Crafts room. Thank you to all the ladies who showed an interest on Activities day in January. We hope to see you at one of our meetings. With any "Irish luck" we will be back to our normal schedule to continue making the items needed to donate to our local organizations. Questions? Call Gail at (951) 797-3589. We enjoy a potluck the last Monday of each month. Join the fun! What? A gathering of like-minded craftspeople When? Every Monday afternoon, 12:30 till ??? Rain or shine Where ? North Clubhouse Why? To share, to learn, to help, and mostly to enjoy each other and our crafts Questions? Call Mary Ann Ivey (The Sock Lady) at (951) 769-1095
