16 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2020 | Village Squares This year the very active OHCC Square Dance Club was delighted to welcome a large group of new and enthusiastic students. Classes started with a bang on Jan. 14, and will continue every Tuesday from 3 to 5 pm in Abravanel Hall. Every new student has an experienced dancer to partner them, and we all have a lot of fun. Coming up on March 11 is our annual celebration of the green, at the St. Patrick's Day dinner/dance. A traditional Irish dinner will be served at 5 pm, followed by dancing at 6:30 pm. All are invited, and members from other local clubs often join us too. Our caller will be Jim Randall. New students should find our website very informative, as it includes detailed instructional videos showing all of the steps being taught. If you enjoy watching the videos, they will help in remembering not only the steps, but the names of the various calls as well. Check it out at; http://ohccvillagesquares.wix.com/villagesquares. If you have any questions at all please call Ed Olson at (760) 295-0993. Theatre Arts Because of scheduling uncertainty caused by the Clubhouse renovations, please read your emails to learn about room assignments at individuals' homes and Abravanel Hall. Programs affected are: Readers' Theatre (first Wednesday) and Senior Moments Improv Troupe, as well as General Meetings. We're happy to report that Actors' Workshop has a room assignment! Until the renovation is complete, classes will be held in the Mykonos Room on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10:30 am to 12:15 pm. Classes are already in progress. If you have any questions, please contact Sally Benton at moki2@Cox.net or (602) 228-7541. At our Feb. 3, General Meeting, Reader's Theatre presented Ladies' First, a play co-written by our own Anita Simons and Lauren Simon. It was very well-received and we look forward to more. Members are invited to attend a performance of Into the Woods at Mira Costa College Theater, One Barnard Drive, in Oceanside on March 8 at 2 pm. For reservations, HURRY (they may sell out) and call the box office at (760) 795-6815 or order tickets online (www. miracosta.edu/officeofthepresident/pio/buytickets.html). Dinner is planned for after the performance at the Jolly Roger Restaurant, 1900 N Harbor Drive, in Oceanside. Call Cathy King at (760) 941-1421 or email her at gertandcathy@hotmail.com for dinner reservations and further details. We are actively looking into more outside venues to help fill the void while the Hall is under construction. Only members will have access to the information of dates, times, sites, etc. So, join! NOTE: There will be no general meeting the first Monday in March because Abravanel Hall is being used for elections. However, we are very excited to be able to schedule a special MEMBERS ONLY March meeting, featuring James Mandel. He presents a multi-media science fiction rock show that is both original and very entertaining! https://scifirockguy.com/booking/ Come and enjoy it with us on Mon., March 9, at 7 pm in Abravanel Hall. General meetings are usually held the first Monday at 7 pm. Because of the Abravanel Hall renovations, please check your email for exact location, date and time. Only members will be informed of upcoming live events. See how much bang you get for your $10 annual dues.
