| OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2020 | 17 Ocean Hills Dance Troupe As the famous Choreographer Martha Graham once described, "Dance is the hidden language of the soul." The Ocean Hills Dance Troupe couldn't agree more! The Dance Troupe is a wonderful collection of male and female dancers of all ages whose dance experience ranges from brand-new beginners to those who have danced for decades. Everyone is there for the joy of dance and the camaraderie of working together as a team. Beginning dancers will find how easy it will be to transition from a mere exercise activity to developing a passion. The friendships that have grown from the spirit of teamwork, support, and laughter are an unexpected delight in addition to all the other benefits we enjoy through attending our dance classes and practices. Dancing is not only good for our souls, dancing is wonderful exercise and we get quite a workout, most of the time without even realizing how much we are exercising. In addition to the cardio benefits, there is stretching and core strengthening which just help us to stand a little taller and feel a little more well-balanced. Additionally, learning the choreography, technique, and really cool "moves" is so helpful for keeping our brains young! We have three very talented and caring instructors who have taught and performed professionally throughout their careers (but more about them in the coming months' articles). Our Tap and Jazz classes are so popular we have a wait-list for new members until after our Show in June. We enjoy a free Belly dance class at 9 am on Saturdays, which is taught by OH resident Sharon Lair (760) 822-2670; and also Hawaiian/ Polynesian dance at 10 am on Saturdays taught by Kailani Adreotti, of Kailani's Wahines, who perform throughout San Diego and Orange Counties. Please contact Valerie Thompson (valgene2@cox.net) if you would like to join that class. So, as Martha Graham so aptly said, "Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. Great dancers are great because of their passion." We hope you will come see our show, "Dancing Under the Big Top" in June, and maybe we might entice you to stop by and take one of our classes to share our fun and express your dancing soul! If you have any questions about any of our classes, membership, or the show, please email me – Allison Stewart als2art@gmail.com I would love to hear from you.
