12 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2020 | Birdwatchers Our next meeting will be on Tues., March 24, at 1 pm in the Ladies Club Room. We will be showing an entertaining and informative PBS film called Duckumentary. Along with beautiful photography, there is commentary about duck behavior, including feeding habits, courting rituals, nesting, mating, and migration. It's sure to be very interesting! Our next bird walk is Fri., March 20. We will be going to the San Pasqual Agricultural Trail and Archaeological Center in Escondido. The San Pasqual Valley Agricultural Preserve Trail winds through the historic valley, offering sweeping views of inland North County where remarkably little has changed in 200 years. Today, the 11,000-acre San Pasqual Valley Agricultural Preserve is owned and managed by the city of San Diego, allowing farming to continue there. The walk is easy to moderate, flat and open with some narrow spots that have weeds and plants you may brush against. We hope to see Cactus Wrens, Greater Roadrunners, California Quails, and a few raptors, possibly the Zone-tailed Hawk. We will meet at the Archeological Center for a picnic lunch. The Center attracts numerous hummingbirds with their feeders and, hopefully, we'll see some Orioles in the surrounding trees. Plan on meeting at 7:45 am at the overflow parking lot where we will hand out maps and decide on carpooling. Departure is at 8 am. The drive is about 30-35 minutes. Bring your picnic lunch and water, and dress for warm weather with sunscreen, good walking shoes, and a hat. On Jan. 30, a group of birdwatchers went to Dixon Lake and saw or heard 29 species. Here are a few great pictures from that walk. Happy birding! Dixon Lake Birding Group Snowy Egret Male Bufflehead
