36 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2020 | Our lead this month is the all-Women's ACE of the year, Sally Palmer. Shown in this captivating picture adjusting the Certificate for the 2019 ACE. I am told no money changed hands, just the frameless certificate and FREEEEEE Wednesday Golf for the year! Congratulations Sally on this win and on the seven holes in one you have had over the 20 years of golf at OHCC. She also has won this ACE title twice before in addition to the men and women's match play title in 2012. And if you think she is slowing down, she shot a 57 a couple of weeks ago. She takes her golf somewhat seriously but at times, not so… once she even threw her club up a tree on 18 and Sunny Frowein had to get it down for her. The one thing other golfers say about Sally is that she hits them straight and has a great short game. That's what I have to say about my neighbor, Sal. And this is what she wanted to say to you, "One of the big reasons I won [ACE] was because of taking lessons, again, from Dori O'Rourke, the golf, and movement coach. She worked with me on some of my bad habits. And, her movement class has really been a help with my balance, breathing, and flexibility," which as you golfers know all too well can really screw up your game. "Besides that, her classes are always fun." So, let's hear it for Sally. Good on you Sal. Also pictured left are the other Ace of the month winners. Yes, you can cut your picture out and paste it. I have been instructed… yes, instructed to once again tell you that the golf course blue flag is for temporary closure, white flag for open and red flag for closed. You can see the flag on the website… That's nice: the French flag colors. So, we have now told you about 2,000 times. Enough taking up space in my column. Hole in one honors go to Larry McBride on #9, Allen Ballard on #17 (whoa, that is a difficult one), Mike Ross on #16 (piece of cake, Mike) and Jeff Hurley on another one of our tough holes #8. Nice going guys. The other important thing on the agenda is the match play coming up in a couple of months. We don't always get a big turnout because golfers just don't think they are good enough to win it. But look here… it is a handicap game. Even if you are an 18 and playing a 5… remember you still get 13 extra strokes to beat a Sally Palmer. I have heard that it is so easy to win it that even Moskowitz won it one year. I worked the casa this month with Ron Carso, who knows everybody's name, and we want to thank you for calling in when your team is not playing that day. This moves the game a lot faster for you guys and dolls who hate to wait. In addition, Captains, please let the casa starters know when someone, on your team, is not playing that day so we can get the standbys a time to play. Big time thanks. Lastly, the first Guys and Dolls tournament was this weekend and the winners were… gee, I haven't a clue. But I do know who the real winners are: The Vetlesens who are always there and we really owe them a huge debt of gratitude for taking good care of us in so many ways. And, some people who wanted free food manning the Wiener, chips, and cookie booth for you (pic left). Thanks for reading or having someone read the column for you. Hal Stephens, bbopalua@ yahoo.com Golf Club The RV Club has some excellent day trips planned for this year: Private class at Chuao Chocolatier in Carlsbad, UC San Diego tour and lunch, and a tour of the Oasis Camel Dairy in Romona.
