| OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2020 | 37 Racquet Club Pardon the construction, and party on — the Racquet Club celebrated Winterfest in February, the first club to host a dinner and dance in Abravanel Hall during the renovations on the Clubhouse. Thank you to Social Committee Co-Chairs Jeanne Brantman and Laura Urban, who orchestrated the enjoyable festivities, and others who helped make it a success. Membership just hit the 350 mark, with 304 renewals and 46 new members. Thanks to our Do Dues Day table volunteers for helping us reach this milestone. Want to join? Just place your $12 check and completed membership form in the RC envelope at the front desk. Membership forms are available at the front desk and on the website. Mike Hoggatt's Introduction to Pickleball for new players wraps up on March 7. The winter session was added to meet increased interest with more than 40 residents taking advantage of the instruction on basics and skills. With eight seasoned players assisting on the four courts, everyone on a court has instructor feedback and support. "Pickleball is easy to learn," says Mike. "Novices can gain confidence quickly and have fun right away." A summer session of free classes will be offered on Saturday mornings from late May to early September. Do you have an extra pickleball paddle lying around? It happens - what was once a favorite paddle gets demoted to number two, or even number three. Give those paddles a new life by donating them to OHCC Racquet Club to build up equipment inventory. With the spike in beginner players who borrow from the equipment inventory during lessons, more paddles are needed. If you'd like to donate, contact Ann Rike. All the Racquet Club's net sports welcome OHCC residents to participate in the free classes; membership in the club is not required. Check out these free lessons and drop-ins: • Paddle Tennis: Part of Monday morning drop-ins 9 to 10:30 am, HOA courts • Tennis: Refresher lessons taught by OHCC resident Patty Coffey start April 15 to May 20, Wednesday afternoons on Tennis 3. New this year are resident Glen Goglia's Sunday Tennis Lessons/Round Robin Games on Tennis Court 3, 9:30 to 10:30 am, first-come, first- served, maximum eight students; Drop-ins are another way for new players to get started on M-W-F, 8 to 9 am. • Badminton: Wednesday evenings in summer TBA • Water Volleyball: M-W-F, 2 –4 pm For more information and a full schedule visit www. ohccracquetclub.wix.com/racquet
