Shel Silverstein: Shel Silverstein is a
cartoonist and song writer as well as a writer
of books. He is best known for his cartoons
in Playboy Magazine, but his prowess as
a children's book author is just as grand,
including such classics as The Giving Tree and
Where the Sidewalk Ends. His best cartoon
is the classic, Now Here's My Plan, where two
prisoners are hanging from a dungeon wall…
(you get the picture).
Silverstein lived on a boat in Sausalito and
his famous songs include The cover of Rolling
Stone, Sylvia's Mother and A Boy Named
Sue. Sadly, most of his original notes were
destroyed in the Universal
Studio fire of 2008.
Whether you write humor,
science fiction, horror
stories — or even those about your great
grandmother's cookie baking — there is
room for you in our Creative Writers' Group;
so, if you love to write, come and check
us out. Whether you are in the process of
writing something, or merely thinking about
it, we can help with gentle critiques or just a
simple, "Hey, good job!" Meetings are the first
Monday (April 6) and third Wednesday (April
15) in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose
Room from 3 to 5 pm, rain or shine. For more
information call Roger Smith at (951) 769-
2808.
