| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2020 | 53 Are you a new resident who is looking for a way to meet Sun Lakers and keep physically active? Are you a resident who continues to work and is looking for opportunities to engage with the Sun Lakes community without interrupting your professional schedule? Are you an established resident who is looking for a club that offers a wide variety of social activities, activities that promote good health, and periodic competitions? Your search is over! Join the Sun Lakes Tennis Club! Everyone, whether new to Sun Lakes, an established resident, or those who continue to work will find the Tennis Club a great fit. Sharing similar interests with others is psychologically rewarding. Tennis can also be thought of as a zero calorie brain food! Playing tennis can improve critical thinking, mental alertness, and tactical thinking by fostering neural connections in the brain. The tactical aspect of the game keeps your mind occupied while your body gets a good workout — the short term goals of reaching that little yellow ball in time makes it a great strategic exercise. Tennis is a sport that increases your ability to move, change direction and stretch your body. Tennis is a great cardio workout! Bjorn Borg once characterized tennis as a thousand little sprints. The quick movements demanded when playing the sport burn fat, increase heart rate, and promote higher energy levels. We can all appreciate that playing tennis for one hour burns about 600 calories, making it as effective as jogging or an indoor cycling class. And the beauty of tennis is that it challenges your mind and your body. April is the beginning of the Sun Lakes Tennis Club's season for championship competitions. The Sun Lakes 7.0 Mixed Doubles Tennis Club Championship is scheduled for April 24 – 26. The 7.0 level encourages more participation. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the South Clubhouse in mid-March. The Open Mixed Doubles championship is in May, and the Men's and Women's Doubles championships are in October. With over 100 members, the Sun Lakes Tennis Club offers everyone, all ages and abilities, to participate in a game that can be played regularly. Registering for Tennis Club membership is easy! Slip your name and contact information with your check for $10 into the box at the South Clubhouse. Checks can be made out to the Sun Lakes Tennis Club. Let's get out there and play tennis! Tennis
