54 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2020 | Our club appreciates the cordial relationship we have with our fellow POP tennis members. Our two sports have shared the three courts for many years. Recently, POP president Michelle Carter approached our Tony Browne with a kind offer to share the courts on Friday mornings. This will be an exception to the normal exclusive use of the courts by the respective groups. The Friday usage will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Picklers are working hard to put on the Charity Week tournament scheduled for Fri., June 5. This is always a very professional endeavor and the premier community activity of Sun Lakes' year. We have all been impressed with the enthusiasm and generosity of those who plan the week's events and our club is delighted to join in the fun. We will have an informal tournament that will attempt to showcase the enjoyment to be had by players of all skill levels and experience. We will be inviting players from the surrounding venues in the Inland Empire which will also show off the wonderful amenities in this active adult resort. Please plan to attend whether as a player, a fan or just a curious onlooker. The South Clubhouse tennis complex will be jumpin'. Sun Lakes' dry winter allowed more outdoor play opportunities than usual as California sunk back into drought (the only natural disaster we can enjoy while it's happening). We saw many new faces on the courts, as folks who had dropped by our Activities Day table followed through on the invitation to try the game. In addition, new residents have been coming out, taxing our court space. It's a good problem, but we appreciate everyone's patience. Afternoon play is wide open most days and will continue until the inevitable heat of summer sets in. Fortunately the court lights allow great evening play during the hottest months. We invite all who wish to join America's fastest-growing sport to come out. We have paddles to loan until you decide if this is for you. You can check on the best times to start with our officers: President Tony Browne at (909) 509-0105 or VP Judy Luna at (949) 929-2390. See you on the courts! Pickleball Club
