18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2020 | Our 55+ community is a microcosm of the outside world and right now we all are acting/reacting to daily concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus emergency. Residents have many concerns: health, family and loved ones, the fate of our country, bills, restriction of travel and canceled plans. Probably protecting ourselves and keeping up-to-date on shifting events are two daily issues. The Communications Committee shares these concerns and sees the need for current, accurate information as being a vital job of our committee. Hopefully you have found that Good Day Sun Lakes at Channel 97 is a valuable tool in knowing what is going on currently in our community. In addition to the posted schedule, our production staff has been able to add important updates on personal protection as advised by the CDC or WHO, as well as education regarding viral infection basics and specific lessons as they evolve with this novel coronavirus pandemic. The main takeaways: wash hands with soap and water (or use sanitizer) frequently, reduce touching nose, eyes, mouth and practice physical distancing. We know these actions effectively reduce the spread of the virus. We will get through this. I see a lot of good cheer amongst residents as well as overall optimism that as a community we can spread a message of hope in spite of our "shelter-at-home." Please use Good Day Sun Lakes at Channel 97 as a daily means of keeping up-to-date. You will see current status of activities, events, health updates, and administration messages for residents. In these changing times, we encourage clubs and groups to provide updates by going to gooddaysunlakes@gmail.com to provide information about your activities. We appreciate that the production staff is working safely to continue to provide updated information. There has been a swell of interest to show how Sun Lakes residents are responding to current challenges and needs of the community and providing optimism to our neighbors. We indeed have been lucky enough to find this unique neighborhood to enjoy our senior years and GDSL hopes to provide commentary on people and actions that make it so. Sun Lakes Advisory Committee Reports We are happy to see more Advisory Committees submitting articles about the important work they are doing in Sun Lakes. Our goal is to have all active Advisory Committees share their news here each month. Thank you in advance for everyone's participation! April included "volunteer week" and Sun Lakes is fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers in many areas. The HOA Master Board members spend countless hours working on behalf of residents. The April election for new members and delegates has been put on hold, which extends the time of serving for those currently in these positions. Leadership is always faced with challenges and this is especially true in these trying times. We are grateful to all of you for all you are doing. So many of us look forward to receiving our Lifestyles Magazine each month to see all of the upcoming events and activities that we might be interested in. We know that the April issue did not offer that opportunity because of all of the cancellations and changes occurring each day. As of this writing – it appears that the month of May will not be any different. Hopefully, there will soon be an end to our "sheltering in place" and we will be able to return to all of our favorite activities! Please do continue to check on the status of things by watching Good Day Sun Lakes on Channel 97, the Sun Lakes website, and Facebook. The communication has been outstanding and we appreciate it. In closing, I hope this issue finds you in good health and ready to jump back in to our gracious living here in Sun Lakes. Lifestyles Advisory Library Advisory If you're running out of reading material during our homebound days, we have a temporary solution. Until our libraries re-open, we have approximately 200 mysteries, thrillers, romances and some non- fiction (including biographies) available for pickup on the front patio of 5354 W Pinehurst Dr from 10-5 daily (weather permitting). You may also drop off books and puzzles for others to share. Disinfectant wipes are used on the books daily, please allow one person at the tables at a time and use masks, gloves or sanitizer as designated by health department guidelines. Be safe and hopefully we'll be able to utilize our libraries and other amenities again soon. Communications Bingo Advisory Well as you might already know, Bingo is now scheduled to return on June 9, but of course this date is subject to change based on the virus circumstances. Additional dates will be June 16, 23 and 30. When Bingo does return, it will be with a bang! Many big cash prizes and door prizes. Doors open at 4:30 pm and games start at 6 pm. Stay safe and be well and hopefully we'll see you again in June. Questions? Call (951) 769-4579 (Toni) or (951) 797-3817 (Karen).
