| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2020 | 19 Recreation Advisory As we all struggle to not get cabin fever due to the coronavirus, I am sure you are telling yourself the same thing as I am. Trying to remain positive and appreciative that we live in such a wonderful community. We are blessed to have warm homes and friends nearby that we can rely on. I don't know about you but I used Instacart and Amazon to bring most of the things that I need. There have been many disappointments for us all. Trips canceled, events canceled, our normal routines canceled, special occasions not being celebrated. Not being able to access our amenities is a lot to deal with. We are starting to get a little antsy but we have to stay the course and do all we can to conquer the coronavirus. I know that I and many, many others are anxious to return to being able to get back to "normal." People are finding things to do that they might not normally have time to do, which is wonderful. The spirit of the folks living in our community is awesome. People are stepping up to provide entertainment for us. Of course, they're staying socially distanced while helping each other in every way we can. Myself, I want to go on the two trips I had scheduled, one being a visit with my family in another state and one overseas. So now these are things that I am looking forward to doing in the future. The Recreation Committee is very disappointed to have to cancel or postpone so many great events for your entertainment. It is looking like the cancellations and postponements will most likely continue through May and possibly longer. This is not something we want to hear or do but we do what we have to do. Did you try our restaurant curbside service? It is very organized and delicious. What a wonderful asset to have right here in Sun Lakes at our fingertips. Stay safe, stay inside other than going out for essentials. Give thanks to all those who have put their own lives at risk by serving us in our everyday needs. They are too numerous to list, but you know who they are. June is the month that all things begin to happen in Sun Lakes. Evenings on the Veranda, Ice Cream Socials, Music Under the Stars, and then the 4th of July. These events will jump start us and give us something to look forward to. We will see you soon. As I write this article, I realize how much I've missed having breakfast in the Sandwedge, lunch in the restaurant, or a glass of wine in the lounge after a round of golf. Hopefully, by the time you read this, everything will be back on track and we will be able to do all of these things again! These past few months have brought great changes to our world and for me, it has brought a greater appreciation for this wonderful community in which we live! We have an incredible staff here that has done everything needed to keep us safe. We have amazing residents who continue to help and support each other. We have a very efficient communication system with the Sun Lakes website, channel 97 and all our different Facebook pages. And we are learning again how to use Facebook! There are probably half a dozen Facebook pages exclusive to Sun Lakes that are an incredible resource to keep us informed as well as a delightful place to share positive thoughts and laughter. I applaud our community for all the joy and humor that I'm seeing now on social media. We are stronger together. Thank you for confirming this! So what does all this have to do with the restaurant? This crisis will run its course and life will resume in a more normal way. I would invite all of us to take this "new attitude" into our "new normal." As you know, a fresh new menu was introduced in February which many of you have not yet enjoyed. One of the many exciting changes includes the Monthly Specials. Each month will feature three specials that are available for only that month, e.g. corned beef was in March. The following month will bring something completely different. You requested variety and we heard you! Watch the website www.sunlakescc.com/restaurant for monthly updates. We also introduced an all-day Sunday menu, starting at 7 am that includes all- day breakfast as well as soups, salads and sandwiches. Plus, small bites are back for dinner, including spaghetti & meatballs and Filet Oscar medallions as well as house favorites such as fish & chips, meatloaf and fried chicken for only $10.95! So get your taste buds ready Sun Lakes! The restaurant and lounge WILL be open soon and everyone is invited! Restaurant & Lounge Advisory REMINDER: NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL CAN BE BROUGHT INTO MAIN CLUBHOUSE
