52 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2020 | Drinking From the Fountain of Youth Having been to Japan, Hawaii, and having lived in Germany as a child, as well as multiple places in the USA, she came kicking and screaming to Sun Lakes! And here I must quote her. She said, "I did not want to move to Sun Lakes with all those old people. Ha! I've never been happier in any home (and I've had many). I've never been more active or felt more attached to a community. I'm convinced all the greatest people in California live in Sun Lakes and are drinking from the Fountain of Youth! I absolutely love it!" She added that she is eternally grateful to her husband for ignoring her pleas to stay in their home in Redlands. She has been playing Pop Tennis for six months now and regular tennis sporadically since high school, but more off than on. Having been an Air Force kid while she was growing up, she welcomes our warm community. Presently a 4th and 5th grade teacher, she was also a former radio news director, and advertising agent, but she truly believed she missed her calling as a cowgirl. Yee-haw! She graduated from San Diego State University in Journalism. (We are choosing her next for this writing task!) Hee hee! Then she finished her Masters at University of Redlands. With her ebullient personality, she considers Sun Lakes her "home sweet home." Her final remarks were "I've traveled a lot but not so much anymore; I'm perfectly content here." And we are perfectly content to have her smiling face and cheerful demeanor on the courts. Can you guess who this wanna-be cowgirl and formerly reluctant Sun Laker might be? Demo paddles are available. Come out and see what it's all about, or call Pat or Michelle Carter at (909) 747-5851. Come out on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays (free for Pop and Pickleball), and Sundays from 8 to 10 am to intermingle with some real characters and all those pop tennis ladies and gents! Table Tennis/Ping Pong We play Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4 to 6 pm, and Sat., 10 am to 12 noon in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (normally). Because the Ballroom is such a popular venue for so many varied events, our time slot sometimes gets canceled. Therefore if you are not a regular attendee please refer to the Sun Lakes website at sunlakescc.com and click on "Recreation" then click on "Classes," and finally click on "Table Tennis Group" for the current months up to date schedule. You can also check the Main Clubhouse events board across from the recreation desk or call the reception desk at (951) 845-2191 for that days calendar. We have all skill levels currently participating and welcome all new comers. We have several newer quality tables, and all the equipment is provided free by the Sun Lakes Recreation Department. A fun way to exercise! Please come give us a try. There are no fees. Laced tennis shoes required - no exceptions! For info contact Bruno at (951) 797-0357. Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time.
