8 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | MAY 2020 By Theresa Rossetti, Resident A new Blockbuster action movie? A shoot-'em-up thriller? Nope, a wonderful independent film I was lucky enough to see at the Golden State Film Festival thanks to the director, a friend of my daughter-in-law's. This movie touched my heart. Without giving away too much of the plot, it deals with a woman struggling to come to terms with her bipolar disorder while trying to mend fences with her 12-year-old daughter, her parents, and her ailing grandfather. Kathy, portrayed by Tanna Frederick, is on parole and estranged from her family for some time. She returns to the Iowa farms that her parents and grandfather own, to face them and to learn to manage her own health problems. The film deals with her disorder honestly, letting us see the bad and the good as Kathy struggles for balance in her health. The touching story of her reconnection with her much loved, but decidedly grumpy, grandfather certainly could be familiar to many of us who have faced healthcare issues with a relative who wants to age in place. The scenes of the Iowa farmlands are stunningly filmed as well. After the film, there was a Q&A with two of the stars, Tanna Frederick and Tom Bower (Grandpa), and the director. As we were leaving, we found ourselves in the elevator with Mr. Bower, who we spoke to for a bit as we all made our way to the parking lot. Celebrity sighting, up close and personal! The moral of this story is to embrace some of the independent films being made today. With all the streaming options we have, there are many available. If you happen to run across this one, let me know, I'd love to see it again. Two Ways Home – a review By David Allen, Resident Well how does the gym look? With the approval of the Board we have purchased five new machines, two ellipticals and three treadmills, as well as a ball rack. These new workout machines are top of the line pieces of equipment that will last for many years and come with extended warranties. We have also secured a maintenance contract for the remaining equipment and, as you can see, rearranged equipment to make the workout area more "workout friendly." Stretching bars for the warm-up area have also been purchased. The bars will be located in the gym downstairs as well as the workout room upstairs. These additions and changes have been made specifically to assist workout routines for the 55 and older group. However, as stated in the March issue of The View, this gym can also accommodate members working out at all levels of physical fitness. If you haven't taken the time to see your Solera Diamond Valley gym lately, come on down to The Lodge and check out our updated facility (when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, of course). It looks great, it's user friendly and it's all yours! The New Gym Look
