| OHCC LIVING | MAY 2020 | 3 President's Message By Angela Takemato Hello everyone! Well, April has certainly been an eventful month. It has introduced a whole new way of conducting Board meetings as well. We have adapted nicely to meetings via conference call. Our Open Board meeting on April 9 was a success when we had over 30 members participate. So, since the Open Meeting on March 12, the Board conducted several emergency meetings, all via conference call or email, in response to the rapidly changing environment surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. One thing not related to the pandemic is that on March 13, the Clubhouse Executive Committee approved $11,478 for chairs and tables for the Grand Galleria. So, now to report on the emergency meetings: On March 16, the Board reviewed the new stricter guidance and determined that to preserve safety as much as possible, we should close the Clubhouse and pool area, as well as the golf casa, golf course restrooms, and the woodshop. Also, we decided the HOA would be closed, with in-person business by appointment only. Another eblast was sent informing residents of the decision. On March 18, the Board again reviewed direction from federal, state, county, and city authorities, and determined that the stay-at- home order required additional measures related to our facilities and operation of Association business. The Board provided the General Manager with authority to conduct day-to-day operations remotely, with financial transactions being approved on an individual basis by two Board members. The Board also reviewed facility closures and determined the sports courts should be closed, and that golfers should be encouraged to maintain social distancing guidelines, and discourage any group play. Residents were informed via eblast. On March 19, the Board met again to discuss our position related to Keystone employees working from home. The Board resolved that in order to retain these valuable employees, the Association would provide our financial support, by continuing to cover payroll costs on an ongoing basis, with periodic review. Then on March 30, we held our "regular" monthly Executive session, and discussed third party contracts and approval of minutes of prior executive sessions. The Board approved the proposal from our insurance broker, Labarre-Oksnee to renew the Association's insurance package: Master policy, Auto, Umbrella, Fidelity Bond, D&O Liability, Cyber Liability, and earthquake coverage effective April 1, 2020 - March 31 2021, at a cost of $89,885, funded from Operating. The Board also reviewed proposed changes submitted by Securitas related to their new contract. The changes were not accepted, and the Board authorized our attorney to work with Securitas directly to resolve the remaining issues. During the Open Board meeting on April 9, The Board approved a new Emergency Rule, stating that no guests were permitted to use our golf course, in response to additional restrictions imposed by San Diego County. As I write this, in the middle of April, I have no idea what our situation will be as you are reading it in May! But I do want to talk about how we are all doing here in the community. I know most of you are adhering to the stay-at-home and no-gatherings order, and we thank you for that. We do encourage you to think hard about inviting guests into the community unless it is absolutely necessary. It is an individual decision, of course. I also want to confirm that the Association will not release any information related to any reported cases of COVID-19 in our community. If residents are concerned about possible exposure, they need to contact the local health authorities for information. Our Keystone team, led by Wendy, is doing what they can to keep things running, while working from home. Greg Johnson, our Maintenance director, is onsite every day, checking the facilities and coordinating with our contractor. And we have a skeleton staff onsite, dealing with the dog waste stations on Leisure Village way, and cleaning the benches daily. Wendy is handling our day-to-day business from home, assisted by Robyn for Village issues, and Heather and Melissa, who are in the HOA office at least once a week to check on mail and messages. Anthony Riggio, our Landscape director is onsite frequently, coordinating with the O'Connell team as work continues on landscaping and golf course maintenance. You know that we all want to have our lives get back to some kind of normal again, but we do not have any crystal ball to tell us when that might be. The Board is constantly reviewing local guidelines, and will work to resume operations once it is permitted. In the meantime, some good news… Our Clubhouse renovation contractor is still working! His team is making great progress and so far, hasn't encountered any significant issues. So, stay positive and look forward to the grand opening! Stay safe and stay well, everyone.
