chorale Spring Concert: The Music Of Broadway & Hollywood Have you ever heard of EARWORMS? Webster defines it as MNEMONIC, an adjective, aiding memory (pronounced with a silent m). Everyone has had the experience of a song running around inside their head over and over like a broken record - ergo, earworm. With the upcoming Spring Concert in full practice mode of two practices a week, we are referring to our changing "earworms." On a week our Director concentrates on refining our presentation of a certain song in the program, that song seems to be the earworm of the moment. Different songs for different folks is the way it works. This week we're living with "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" - next week it may be "Steam Heat." With uncanny talent, our treasured Director Bob Jensen brings us from barely mumbling through the program at the first crusin' cronies The "Automobile Aficionados Group" or "Car Buffs" meets on the first Saturday of each month (except in December). We welcome all Sun Lakers and guests who enjoy car talk, taking tours with our new or old cars and having a meal out. Our first Saturday of the month meeting begins from 8 to 8:30 am in the parking lot of the Main Clubhouse to show off our cars, look practice session to full blown concert grade performers by concert date. His earworm must be in counting "1-2-3-4" which he does over and over to keep our timing on point. After a particularly difficult passage has been mastered he gives us his wry smile along with, "That was good! Thank you." We are blessed with some really talented singers - you have enjoyed some of them at different venues. The majority of chorale members are simply seniors who love to sing (with shower-quality voices) and would faint if they had to do a solo but, in a group they sound quite good. Chorale is a learning privilege as well as a joy. Please come share in our joyful sounds of Broadway and Hollywood on Fri., May 3 at 7 pm, Sat., May 4, at 7 pm, Sun. matinee, May 5, at 3 pm. Tickets are on sale in the Main Clubhouse Lobby weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm. As always, tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Info., Billie Elowe, 845-0339. at everyone else's cars, and socialize. From there, we either meet in the Clubhouse or caravan to a different location to have our monthly meeting and breakfast. Jim Sedlacek has been a car enthusiast since high school. This club was a perfect fit when the first item on Jim's bucket list became a reality with the purchase of his 2013 5.0 Mustang Convertible GT- 420 HP. It took awhile to convince his wife Patricia that the time had come to splurge. This American muscle car has a timeless cool factor that attracts attention. With all that horsepower, it's hard to resist the "need for speed" call. The V-8 engine and a couple of Shaker sound systems are capable of rousing sound sleepers in the next county. The styling updates are subtle. Updates include side-mirror puddle lamps that project the image of the famous pony emblem onto the pavement when the driver unlocks the car. This is the last year Ford will manufacture the traditional style Mustang. It is fun to drive in regular or topless mode and is hard to resist putting down the top while driving up the coast or getting some fresh mountain air. You'll find Jim in his garage washing, waxing and making sure there is no dust to be found on his favorite ride. 24 | sun lakes lifestyles | may 2013 | social clubs & groups | sun lakes lifestyles | may 2013 |25
