One day there will be Post Pandemic Parties! Are there celebrations that have been put on hold — big birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, Bar Mitzvahs? Once we are 'sprung' and feel comfortable, we will be celebrating with every part of our body and mind! And, it's easier to maintain physical distancing with line dancing than with other types of group dancing. Have you ever wanted to join in on the dance floor doing the "Electric Slide" but didn't know how? How about the line dance to Elvira that you may have seen at some parties? You can learn both on the Village Line Dancers' website. Got a few minutes to check it out? You can also get a review of our class's routines on: OceanHillsCountryClub.com: Go to Resident Log In; Click on Recreation; Click on Quick Links/Social Clubs; Select Village Line Dancing; Scroll to the bottom and choose PRACTICE AT HOME. Aside from getting ready for parties, it's essential to keep moving. We will let you know when we are back to a normal schedule. We'll be meeting safely when the time is right! Have fun getting to know these dances and stay safe! ~ Valdene Ramrus, Carol Ann Ferrol, Mary McGhee, Lynn Murphy, Board of Directors, Village Line Dancers Dance, Dance, Dance by Joanne Mazur The Dance Troupe takes us to a magical place; Where we are transformed into elegance and grace. Where a blackbird can become a swan. Where the darkness meets the dawn. Tap Dance, Ballet, Belly Dance or Jazz. It all has the feeling of Razzmatazz. When music and dance are in harmony, It becomes a symphony. Choreographed to the count of eight. Don't look at the floor, hold your head straight. In the kick line, point your toes! Concentrate, and forget your woes. Ready, 5,6,7,8. My count was just a little late. I get support from my pals, I look to them when all else fails. Practice and practice until it's right. I trudge through this with all my might. Sometimes I fumble, and sometimes I stumble. I pick myself up, it keeps me humble. It's the lure of the music to the dance, Like the aura of a new romance. Where Diamonds and Rubies all become one. We dance our tootsies off, but we have fun. I received my costume and I'm all ado. What size is this? It feels like a two. Viewing myself in the mirror, This is causing holy terror! Bring up the curtain and let the music play. Ball Change or Maxie Ford, we're in the fray. Our Troupe will be beautiful, and all aglow. It's going to be an awesome show. 14 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2020 | Ocean Hills Dance Troupe Village Squares We all feel a bit of sadness and nostalgia at losing our weekly square dance time. There is now a hole in our lives that Tuesdays and Wednesdays used to fill. We have danced continuously since 1984, with Jim Randall taking over in 1992. Square dance has provided us with fun, friendship, a real sense of community. It is so much more than just the dancing. Realizing that we would not be able to dance again this year, the Village Squares board met and made the decision to refund the money to those who had paid for the full year. We prorated the amount according to the fact that we had already had seven weeks of dancing. Linda Drapeau, our new treasurer (following Dave Quainton's resigning due to his and Judy's moving away), made out the checks and distributed them to all who showed up at the overflow parking lot. She put checks in tubes of those members who did not come to the lot. We owe thanks to Linda for completing this in such a timely manner. We are now doing our best to follow the rules and guidelines laid out to us. We know this will be over, and we look forward to resuming dancing in the year to come. For those with sharp eyes, I need to correct the spelling of Verl's name, which the typing gremlins managed to mix up. It is Verl Lobb, Mr. Square Dance, and the inspiration for many of us. Village Line Dancers Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time.
