| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2020 | 29 Racquet Club It's been delightful to receive cheery waves from fellow club members doing the daily loop on Leisure Village Drive, with the potential pause for a not-too-close encounter and catch up on coping anecdotes. When we return to whatever the new normal is at OHCC, we will be ever more grateful for the lovely community we are so blessed to live in. Looking ahead to that, in early May a survey was distributed to membership as the Racquet Club board began to 'think about how to think about' court sports adjustments necessitated by the fierce foe who sidelined us, the novel coronavirus. As seasoned athletes, we will assuredly adapt and flex to the situation upon return. Our board has been navigating what matter of safeguards and precautions to put in place for the health and benefit of all. "Club members will be informed every step of the way as we work diligently to reinstitute safe play," said Cliff Singh, Racquet Club interim president. One thing we do know is that the role of the Sports Committees will be elevated in the new world order. First formed in 2019, the committees were conceived to provide more opportunities for player input into the activities, playing rules, and scheduling for the five Racquet Club-managed sports. Their job description now encompasses a range of actions the advisory committees might undertake: • Know the rules and regulations for their sport; Provide advice and counsel for their sport • Serve as first point of contact for suggestions, issues, complaints and concerns; Identify issues early • Schedule dates for events and/or classes • Report their event plans to PR Coordinator for publication in OHCC Living • Advise Sunshine Coordinator of members who should be sent greeting cards One monitor for each sport watches the courts and the equipment and when something requires maintenance or repairs, advises the club president who then works directly with the Recreation Dept. and OHCC Maintenance. "More than just input, the sports committee monitors get first dibs on forming solutions to address suggestions and hot spots, before going to the board," adds Cliff. "This gives a two-prong approach to resolution." The 17 volunteers represent different skill levels in the sport and people who played at different venues, e.g. Clubhouse or HOA. You'll find their contact information on the website, along with the club's Board of Directors: https://ohccracquetclub.wixsite. com/racquet/information.
