| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2020 | 25
Reporting live from her sewing room, is our correspondent
Marylu Belisle, who has been directing our current deployment of
club members. Take it away Marylu:
During April and into May, there was a surge in requests for face
masks from Camp Pendleton, nursing homes, and our neighbors.
Through the efforts of your neighbors, friends and Sewing Club
members, we hope most everyone in the community has been able
to secure a mask. There was at least one group of volunteers who
organized to offer free masks for OHCC residents. Over a period of
two weeks, this group of 14 created and distributed over 275 masks.
They are now over 350. Rather than accept personal compensation,
the group has received donations for the OHCC Sewing Club.
We'd like to thank all of our generous volunteers for their time,
talent, materials, and efforts. And, we'd particularly like to thank all
of the OHCC residents who made a donation to the Sewing Club. Rest
assured, your contributions will continue to support our charitable
works.
Volunteers continue donating time and material to knit blankets
for preemies at the hospitals, quilt memory blankets for children of
soldiers being deployed, as well as make Christmas stockings and
cradle quilts for Camp Pendleton families.
If you're clearing out your garage, or purging old craft items,
and you have items related to sewing or knitting, we ARE accepting
donations. Although the Sewing Club Room is not an available place
to drop off goods, fabric and yarn, etc., they can be picked up from
your house. If you're interested, please contact Chris Sanderson at
(858) 442-1834.
