Interior Design ad hoc Committee 6 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JUNE 2020 By Teri Collett, Concierge Staff working from home is as difficult for us as it may be for all of you. During this difficult time, I thought I could provide some tips to help with smoother communication between office staff and residents. The office number is being forwarded to me at home, please call and leave messages with me for the other staff members but know that you will not be able to speak with them directly in that moment. I will send them your message and they will return your call as soon as possible. We are all working from our own homes. If you are requesting a phone call or that something be mailed or emailed to you please be sure to include the necessary information with your request e.g., name, phone number, address, email address. Please be sure to read all emails in their entirety, most questions are addressed in emails and may be listed at the bottom of the notification. Please keep in mind that as difficult as this all may be it is only temporary, and we will all be back to our normal lives as soon as it is safe to do so. I for one cannot wait to be back in the beautiful Mountain View Lodge and see all your smiling faces once more, stay safe and take care of one another. Concierge Corner By Harriet Brunner, Chair Hello to SDV residents! This message will serve as your very informal report from the Interior Design ad hoc Committee. We continue to meet via phone conferences to discuss the refurbishment of the Lodge furniture, artwork, and accent items. For those of you who have not engaged in this form of communication, I have one word of advice… don't! This type of meeting is the most frustrating thing ever. A meeting that should take 30 minutes tops drags along to an hour-all we do is talk all at the same time, back off, wait for someone to take lead, talk at the same time, back off, regroup… over and over, trying to be so polite, but still stepping over one another's conversation. An exercise in futility! So much easier when we could be face to face. Just a sign of these crazy times. And let's face it, right now it's not like we have anything more pressing on our calendars. So we persevere on behalf of our wonderful community… and envy the younger generations who are so fluent with multi-media and who don't care if they ever have a face to face interaction. I will bring you up to date with our project (Phase 2), but by the time you read this it may be old news… let's hope so! At present, Bassett Furniture, Corporate Sales Division, has taken receipt of all items ordered for our Lodge furniture, artwork, and lighting fixtures. They have agreed to store everything in their warehouse until we can take delivery. Nothing is back-ordered, the order is complete. Our Board and Management are in discussion regarding how best to facilitate the removal/auction/donation of all existing furniture, artwork, and accent items, with an eye to compliance with current county regulations regarding safety during this pandemic. I must say, with all the "worst case" scenarios we brainstormed and tried to anticipate, a pandemic was never on our radar! Staff is currently awaiting written bids from the final two painting companies. The paint is a huge project — the ceiling in the Great Room, the ceilings in both the North and South hallways, and the walls in the North hallway, as well as the Arts & Crafts Room. We would love to have this accomplished while the Lodge is empty. The Board is ready to act as soon as bids are submitted. The next bids are for electrical — this involves moving all three of the current TVs in the Great Room in order to present a look that is not quite so "assisted living." We hope to switch out the large TV into the TV niche (if space permits), move the smaller TV over the Coffee Bar area for daily activity information, and move the TV across from the Office to behind the Reception Desk — a more appropriate place for upcoming events to stream. In addition, this bid will encompass the install of new sconces in the North hallway, the Great Room, and in the computer alcoves. Electrical access will also be updated in the current Coffee Bar area. A bid for touching up the pedestals of the two round tables in the billiards area has been requested. Those two tables and two smaller tables will be the only furniture retained. There is much communication that goes on behind the scenes, both with our Board and Management. Both entities have been very responsive to our concerns and requests for assistance and input. We appreciate the time our elected Board has devoted to this project, and the support from our Management staff. There are a lot of moving parts to this project. We are so anxious to have all the new furnishings in place for the community to enjoy.
