44 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2020 This the perspective of the artist of the month Jane Slamer: One of my favorite things about the Mixed Media Art Class is the stimulation of seeing what the other students create. Each of us has a unique gift and its expression is individual to each of us. I've been interested in trying acrylics for some time. During a visit to Wisconsin this winter, I photographed several barns which brought back some childhood memories. One of those pictures spoke to me and I used it for my first venture into acrylics. Our instructor, Rob, had a few suggestions. He encouraged me through an awkward stage and introduced me to some new tools that made the work easier. One thing I have learned from experience is to keep painting or drawing even when I don't like what is happening. I look at each piece as an experiment and a learning experience. If I trust the process, the result is almost always satisfying. It is delightful to see students of all levels of experience create something they didn't even know they could do. Everyone is welcome here and the atmosphere is positive and encouraging. Give it a try. Mixed Media Arts Classes are normally on Mondays, 10 am to 12 noon, and/or Wednesdays, 6 to 8 pm. There is a nominal $5 fee per person, per session. We look forward to our return to the Arts & Crafts Room at The Lodge. If you have any questions, call Rob Kelman at (951) 992-9156. ~ Rob Kelman Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time.
