July is here! The Lodge has opened, with some changes, and we all want to get back to some sort of normal routine. As we begin the second half of 2020, we continue to transition from major restrictions to regular activities: Committee meetings, enjoying our pool, dining at the Bistro, getting a book from the library, getting a haircut (some needing this more than others), and fitness classes. We will continue to follow the County and City guidelines and hope that soon we can begin to use the fitness center, watch movies, and let our Clubs enjoy their various games. It is important to remember that when The Lodge and facilities were closed, work continued. Cleaning crews sanitized. Landscapers mowed, trimmed, and replaced plants and flowers. Tim (our excellent handyman) painted the inside walls of The Lodge and repaired necessary items. Roving Patrol continued their surveillance, and the Bistro served take-out meals. The Four Seasons Annual Meeting of the Membership was held on May 27. Ballots were counted to determine the 2020-2021 Board of Directors. Six homeowner-candidates ran for four vacancies: Tony Criscenti, Jerry Hawkins, Gene Hikel, Fred Kydd, Ken Pounders, and Greg Rockvam. Incumbents Tony Criscenti, Ken Pounders, and Greg Rockvam were re-elected. Jerry Hawkins was newly elected. Each will serve a two-year term on the Board. We thank Fred Kydd for volunteering to serve our community. We want to thank Gene Hikel for his years of service on the Board. He has always acted in the best interests of our community, going back to the time when he was instrumental in preventing high density development in Reinhardt Canyon. The organizational meeting of the newly-elected Board for the purpose of electing officers was held immediately after the Annual Meeting. The officers elected were as follows: President - Jim Crase Vice President - Greg Rockvam Secretary - Tony Criscenti Treasurer - Cliff Post The 4th of July is almost here. It is interesting to know the history of the events before the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence. When the initial battles in the Revolutionary War broke out in April 1775, few colonists desired complete independence from Great Britain. Those who did were considered radical. By the middle of the following year, many more colonists had come to favor independence due to many factors, such as the best selling pamphlet, Common Sense, published by Thomas Pane. On June 7, 1775, the Continental Congress met. After a heated debate, a five-man committee was appointed to draft a formal statement justifying the break with Great Britain. On July 2nd, the Congress voted in favor of a resolution calling for the colonies' independence, leading up to the July 4th Declaration of Independence. Enjoy this day, and remember: "America is a tune. It must be sung together," by Gerald Stanley Lee. Stay safe.
