28 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2020 | Racquet Club As the Racquet Club Board moves forward in getting our courts open for tennis, pickleball, paddle tennis, and badminton, working very closely with the HOA Master Board, some of our sports are slowly returning. Under the guidance of Racquet Club Board member David Johnson, a reservation system has been designed for court sign-ups in tennis, pickleball, and paddle tennis. Because drop-in play and open play are not yet approved, players use the reservation system for hourly play. Rules for social distancing, wearing of masks to and from courts, no congregating, bringing one's own chair have been followed. One of the silver linings of all the changes is the increased use of our Racquet Club website ( ht t ps : / / ohcc r a cque tclu b. w i x site. com / racquet) which has all information and the link to our reservation system. Paddle Tennis: Some players are reserving times for private games on Mondays and Thursdays, but other players are looking forward to the resumption of their two-hour weekly drop in on Monday mornings where rotation of players and teaching adds to the fun! Tennis: Monitor Patty Coffey reports that players are glad to be back on the courts. The reservation system has been utilized with singles play cropping up on Tennis Court 2 some mornings and late afternoons. Pickleball: Drop-in play brought droves of players back to our courts — Clubhouse, HOA, T1. With the reservation system and COVID-19 rules in place, and given the social nature of pickleball, players slowly returned to the sport with play through early June play picking up the pace. Courts are getting full in the mornings, and late afternoons have returned to popularity. The Racquet Club Board has been working with the Master Board in getting the popular beginner classes underway, targeted to start in June. Badminton: The Racquet Club Board is looking at a July date to start badminton play on every other Wednesday throughout the summer at 6:30 pm. Look for start-up emails and notices that will be sent throughout the community. Water Volleyball: Monitor Charlie Payne reports that the players have been in intensive dry land training in preparation for the coming season, whenever that might be, as the pool had yet to open as we approached June. Reports are that they are now honed to a competitive edge. Water volleyball play will be better than ever if they can play in the summer of 2020. Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time.
