36 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2020 | Swim, Surf & Wellness Board members hope that everyone is continuing to stay active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle during this unprecedented time. Board members continue to meet, virtually, via Zoom calls, monthly, in hopes of keeping our club projects and plans for future club activities moving forward. At the July 2020 Board Meeting the Swim, Surf and Wellness (SSW) Club, the Board approved an update mission statement. The new and expanded Swim, Surf, and Wellness Club mission is to advocate for our members concerning OHCC pool access and activities, to provide information on health and wellness, and promote meaningful social activities, fun, and safety for our swimmers, surfers, body boarders, and all club members. Our ongoing activities: Pool Reopening: The Swim, Surf, and Wellness Club Board has been monitoring the reopening of the pool, which took place in the end of June. We now have three lanes available to swimming and water exercising, during 30-minute increments. Please remember to make your reservation for a pool lane through the online reservation system or call the Clubhouse Front Desk to acquire a time for a lane reservation. We have learned that it is a good idea to print out a copy of your reservation time each time you swim, so that there will be no confusion about which lane and time you reserved. The Swim, Surf, and Wellness Club Board members appreciate all the enthusiasm and cooperation with abiding by the safe COVID-19 pool reopening plan. Free Swim Lessons: Once the Clubhouse Front Desk have come up with a date and plan for our annual Learn to Swim or improve your strokes lessons, the SSW Club will send out a notice to all SSW Club members and will post the information our SSW Club website. As a reminder, expert coaching by Swim, Surf, & Wellness Club members Ken Krueger, Frank Tanner, and Robin Ryan will be provided – don't forget to bring your goggles! To sign up for the lessons, in advance, please email Ken Kruger at k2krueger@yahoo.com. Lessons are open to all residents of OHCC. SSW Club Member Spotlight: Board Secretary, Laynee Strelic is continuing to provide our special "Member Spotlight" publication. In the month of July, we had another great spotlight which focused on Ken Kruger. Ken's motto is accentuate the positive! He has had a very rewarding career as a history and English teacher in secondary schools and as a nutrition and exercise expert at Mount San Antonio College. He has worked with many different people, from seniors to anorexic or obese housewives, to Olympic champions. He worked with international Olympians from 1968 to 2000. Check out the Swim, Surf & Wellness Club website to see the full article and some of Ken's exercise tips. Surf Outings: "The Waveriders" is the informal name for a group of OHCC friends and neighbors who surf, body board, or body surf. Surf alerts can go out any time when conditions are good. Please email Tim Pentel, at timpentel@yahoo.com to be included on the alert list, or if you have any questions. Tim will be updating our club member communications for surf dates, as beaches have reopened. For any questions, please contact Tim Pentel, Swim, Surf, & Wellness expert OHCC surfer.
