54 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2020
TOPS
One, two, three, four, five, six… How many push ups or bicep curls do you do each
day? We have been told to exercise 30 minutes minimum. The members of TOPS
(Take Off Pounds Sensibly) realize this, and decided that we have been spending a
lot of our day sitting. So, we chose to have our meeting in a flat area outside where
we could socially distance ourselves, but get a little exercise. We met at the trail head
across from The Summit, by the picnic tables (with masks, of course).
After a conversation time to discuss the latest COVID-19 information, recipes and
activities, we stood in a big circle and batted a beach ball around. It doesn't sound
like much exercise but stretching, bending and whacking that ball on a windy day
gave us all an activity that, after 20 minutes or so, got us out of breath. Chasing the
balls that got away added more steps to the fun.
Other exercises to do at home are air punches, arm circles, bicep curls, chair sit
to stand, heel taps, jumping jacks, leg extensions, marching in place, overhead arm
raises, seated knee lifts, small seated air kicks, and toe taps. Of course, using free
weights, stretch bands, etc., can increase the calorie burn and muscle building of
each exercise.
We are meeting now safely with masks and social distancing. Why not join us on
Zoom, and make a healthy difference in your life today. We meet Tuesday, 8 am. Call

The July hike took us to Wildwood preserve where the old growth sycamores provided welcome shade (picture below).
