This month, the Ocean Hills Dance Troupe would like to introduce our Hawaiian Dance teacher, Kailani Andreotti. Kailani began teaching at OHCC in January 2019 – her classes feature Hawaiian dance predominantly, but also Tahitian, Samoan and Maori (New Zealand) native dance. Once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, her classes will resume at the Clubhouse on Saturday mornings at 10 am. Tuition is $10 per session or $35 per month, but the initial introductory session is free! As with all other classes hosted by the Dance Troupe, there is no requirement to perform. Please come and check it out! Kailani started Hula dancing as a child in Hawaii in the 1960's and began her professional dancing career in the 1970's. Her professional dance troupe – Kailani's Wahines – has performed throughout San Diego and Orange Counties since she relocated to Southern California. They are one of San Diego's traditional Polynesian music and dance reviews and have performed at private parties at Ocean Hills prior to her becoming a teacher here. Maybe you have seen them perform! Kailani's relaxed, easy-going teaching style and bubbly personality ensures that everyone attending her classes has a lot of fun! She is a kind and positive teacher who encourages her students to "just move" to the music rather than stressing out about making each dance step perfect. She brings her vast collection of Polynesian costume components and musical instruments to class so the students can really "get into" the dance and before we know it, it is as if we are on an hour-long vacation to the islands! Kailani's classes offer a unique and graceful experience for anyone interested in gentle exercise and experiencing the culture of the South Pacific through the art of dance. She also offers seated versions of these dances, providing a low-impact opportunity for those with back, leg and hip challenges. Everyone is welcome and other than comfortable clothing, no special equipment is required! Please feel free to contact the club President, Allison Stewart (als2art@gmail.com) if you have any questions about this class or any of the others sponsored by the Ocean Hills Dance Troupe. We look forward to seeing you soon! 14 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2020 | Ocean Hills Dance Troupe Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time.
