22 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2020 | Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Art Lovers The Art Lovers have been enjoying some lovely and creative art videos that a member has been forwarding. Something to brighten our days. We are all eagerly looking forward to the day when we can meet again in person in the newly remodeled Clubhouse. In the meantime, Oceanside Museum of Art has several exhibitions which can be seen virtually on their website, www.oma-online. org. Set out on the open road with Robin Douglas as your guide to an incredible treasure trove of art museums along the Southern California coast. Inspired by OMA's current exhibition "GIFTED: Collecting the Art of California at Gardena High School, 1919-1956," witness the majesty of the Golden State through the eyes of California Impressionists. OMA's virtual events are available on YouTube within a day or two of the livestream. Please check their website for times. OMA's upcoming exhibition is Southern California Contemporary Quilts. Take a behind-the-scenes look at how fiber artists in the field today capture a myriad of images to convey their experiences. Above, left, Nelda McComb's "Homage to Hockney's Palm Springs." More information can be found on the Oceanside Museum of Art's website. Some local galleries are open but please call before you go as the hours may vary. From Aug. 9 to Sept. 26, The Front Porch Gallery, 2903 Carlsbad Blvd., (760) 795-6120, invites you to experience their juried exhibition featuring artists locally and from across the country. This unique collection features paintings, mixed media, photography, fiber arts, sculpture and more with Maria Mingalone, Executive Director of The Oceanside Museum of Art as the curator and juror. Our own Ernie Pick was juried into the show with his photograph,"Dana," above center. The C.O.A.L. Gallery, 300 Carlsbad Village Drive, Suite 101, (760) 434-8497, from Aug. 9 to Sept. 26, is featuring a painting by OHCC resident, Nancy Klaphaak who won First Place for her "Sliding Door Paniting," above right. Congratulations! The Off Track Gallery, 937 S. Coast Hwy, Suite C-103 at the Lumberyard Shopping Center, Encinitas, showcases work of more than 100 artists in a range of media. For hours, call (760) 942-3636. Art room Well! It's another month of disappointment because our Clubhouse is still closed and we can't share a room full of beautiful art with you. But, we are committed! As soon as the Clubhouse is open for business and our pleasures, we will have a photograph exhibit in the Art Studio that is certain to delight you. In the meantime, do enjoy these two striking photos: (1) While visiting in the south of France, Jim McDonough took this photo of two boats, casting their deep shadows on an overcast day; and (2) the photo of blue pots, taken by Kathy Thornton. They discovered this colorful scene in Málaga, a port city on southern Spain's Costa del Sol, known for its high-rise hotels and resorts jutting up from yellow-sand beaches. They found that the Costa del Sol lives up to its reputation: quite lovely and filled with Europeans of every shape and size, making it a great place to people watch! They say it was a really cool spot to escape the sun and to enjoy this striking collection of blue pots… thus creating one of Kathy and Mike's favorite photos. ~ Judy Harris and Lainy Vinikow
