Founders Duplicate Bridge Friday Duplicate Bridge Founders Duplicate Bridge Club members continue to enjoy playing bridge online. While many players form foursomes and play in the Casual section of BBO (BridgeBase.com), others play ACBL tournaments in the Competitive section, and others enjoy solitaire games. Last month we reported our search for competitive playing options for our members as a group. Although a tournament style game for all member participants was not found, another option was researched and recently implemented. The exciting competitive game of a team match was successfully enacted. A team match consists of eight players playing as two teams at two tables, competing against each other. We currently have two teams in play. Should anyone else be interested in participating, he or she needs to engage seven other Founders Duplicate Bridge Club members to form two teams and contact Heidi Kuhn at hpkuhn@aol.com. Heidi volunteers to set up a match and send instructions to the participants. To get a feel for a team match, you can watch a match in progress. Log on to BBO, then click on Competitive, then click on Team Matches, then click on running. This will open a page showing current matches. Click on any one of the matches that shows two tables playing. Clicking on any of the four players will reveal their profile. Most are advanced to expert and world class players. BBO is truly a global bridge platform with players from all over the world. Early mornings will have mostly European players, mid day will have players from the Western hemisphere and late night hours will have players from the Far East and Australia. Great fun to kibitz. We offer a Duplicate Bridge game that combines the superior scoring of Duplicate Bridge but also has the friendlier and non- aggressive attitude of home style Rubber Bridge. With Duplicate Bridge, your true opponents are the pairs that hold the same cards as you would rather than your opponents at the table. We are not an ACBL game and for that, we not only offer an extremely reasonable game price of just $2, but also give cash awards to the winners. If you are interested, please call John Gates at (760) 295-5885, the president of this bridge club, to see if this type of game might meet your expectations. We are relatively small and have anywhere from five to eight tables. The games are at 1 pm on the second, fourth, and fifth Fridays of the month in Mykonos. You do not have to join this club to play your first game, however if you decide to join, the annual dues are $6.
