| THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2020 | 5 The Annual Meeting and Election of Directors will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020 in a virtual setting to be announced. As you can see, the Annual Meeting and Election has been changed from the original September date. The reasons for the new date are changes to the election process due to the ongoing COVID-19 "no gathering" order. This order prevents us from opening and counting the ballots using the procedures we have used in the past. As a result, the Board of Directors deemed it to be in the Association's best interests to contract with a third-party election company to conduct this year's election and to serve as its inspector of election. In order to comply with notice requirements and provisions of the election requirements of the Civil Code, it was necessary that the Board reschedule the Annual Meeting and Election to Oct. 8, 2020, at 1 pm. The Board was hopeful that the no gathering order would be lifted by the date of the annual meeting but that appears highly unlikely now than it did when the election timeline was originally established. There are four open positions in this election to serve a two-year term. Election packages including a ballot and full instructions for return will be mailed to the membership at least 30 days prior to the Annual Meeting and Election of Directors. Upon receipt of your election package, the ballots may be returned via mail in the included self-addressed envelopes to: The Inspectors of Election, PO Box 131778, Carlsbad, CA 92013 by 5 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 7. As of the candidate deadline, the candidates listed below placed their name in nomination for this election and will be included on the ballot unless they choose to rescind their nomination prior to the preparation and distribution of the election materials. The candidates are listed below in alphabetical order: Walt Bowman (Incumbent) LaVerne Davis Rick Gibbs Bonnie Graham Amy Horlock (Incumbent) Del Mitchum Glenn Sailer Pam Vliss You are encouraged to participate in this election.
