More memories from the Friendship Club: Last November, the Friendship Club presented The Wonderful Wizard of Song: The Music of Harold Arlen, which featured classic songs by Harold Arlen, composer of the songs of The Wizard of Oz. Created by Sam Arlen, the composer's son, and singer/pianist George Bugatti, The Wonderful Wizard of Song took the Sun Lakes audience on a journey through a series of vignettes, tracing Harold Arlen's career, seamlessly moving through the Cotton Club era to his Hollywood years, and ending with his time on the Great White Way. Movie buffs and music lovers were treated to inspired renditions of Stormy Weather, Come Rain or Come Shine, Paper Moon, Accentuate the Positive, Let's Fall in Love, and the much loved tunes from The Wizard of Oz, including Over The Rainbow, named by the American Film Institute as No. 1 in the 100 Greatest American Movie Songs. Woven into the 90-minute musical were inside stories of how some of the world's most beloved songs were created, as well as rare behind the scenes footage from The Wizard of Oz taken by Harold Arlen himself. For more information about the Friendship Club, call Pat at (951) 845-3789 or Leeann at (909) 973-3143. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2020 | 35 Paisano Club The Paisano Club won't be meeting again this year. The Club's Board of Directors will meet in November to assess the situation. All checks will be returned to members with a letter explaining further details, including what will be done with collected dues for 2020 and how the Club will handle the annual Board elections. If you have any questions, please call Jeri Wall at (909) 731-3311. Meanwhile, stay safe and healthy! Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Members of Cruizin' Cronies enjoy showing off their spiffy classic cars, and we look forward to gathering again when things go back to normal here in Sun Lakes. When that happens, we encourage you to check out our club at 8 am on the first Saturday of each month with our display of classic cars in the Main Clubhouse parking lot. A short meeting in the Multipurpose Room follows at 8:30 am, and then we go to breakfast at a local restaurant. There are no dues, no extra fees, just friendship, stories, and lots of laughter. Call Sandra Glickman at (951) 267-1113 for more information. Cruzin' Cronies I do hope this finds you all well and finding ways to pass the pandemic time without too much pain or difficulty. Remember, if you or your spouse are 80 years old or older, you are both eligible to be members of the wonderful 80s Plus Club, though we may be one of the last clubs to reconvene during this pandemic turmoil. While each person has to make their own decisions about how actively social to be in these times, some things are simply taking their sweet time in getting back to "normal." I still can't believe the summer is just about over. We have been gathering each month (pre-pandemic) for a social dinner and first rate entertainment. We are always in the South Clubhouse at 3 pm. Our gatherings will not be happening now until further notice and we will be looking on down the line for our next decision about resuming our get togethers. It might be time to mention that when we begin 2021, our meeting days/dates will change from Saturdays to Sundays and we'll share those details closer to the end of the year. I do hope you are all well and safe and I hope to see you all on the other side. For more information about our club, please feel free to contact either Diane Aarhus at (951) 797-3676 or Donna Harrington at (909) 561-5066. Stay safe, be well, and cheers to all! 80s Plus Club The Friendship Club
