SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | OCTOBER 2020 7 By Melissa Valona The Recreation Advisory Committee recently added to the community's amenity list. All activities can be checked out at the front office in the equipment checkout log. We have ordered a basketball hoop set, a crochet set, a horseshoe set, and a giant Jenga. The Jenga, crochet, and horseshoe set can be taken to any park within the community. Please give 24-hour notice to check out the basketball hoop game as the monitors will need time for setup on the back patio. I hope you enjoy these new activities. The first Music Under the Stars was September 24. I hope everyone enjoyed the long overdue opportunity to get outside and enjoy some live music. Be on the lookout for more outdoor activities soon. In the past, we gave you 60 days to register for events, but as we adjust to events in the pandemic and post-pandemic era, I will be announce all events via email, on the website, and with flyers. If you are using the pool area, please leave 10 minutes before your reservation ends so we may sanitize for the next guest. Also, wearing a mask is mandatory when entering the facility to check in. The cleanliness of the courts and pool area has been a major topic of discussion. This has been an uphill battle for us as construction across the street and ash from fires have greatly increased the dirt in these areas. Monitors have been trained on the best way to clean these areas and I have increased the frequency of cleaning. Please bear with us as we face these challenges and make time to tackle them all while trying to respect and maintain the reservation system. Thank you in advance for your patience. LIFESTYLE REPORT Our association will soon begin strategic planning — what does that mean and what will be happening? Simply stated, strategic planning is a process we use to determine where were going and how were going to get there. It includes these steps: • Assessing our current position. We will identify our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Knowing where we are now will help get us where we want to be in the future. • Identifying our purpose. This will become our "mission statement." For example, "our association exists to ensure the highest possible quality of life for all residents." • Setting goals that identify what we need to achieve the mission. Our goals will be specific and measurable and will provide an indication of how were doing as we progress. • Deciding how to meet our goals. We may have to allocate resources, create committees, or undertake other tasks to achieve our goals. • Developing an action plan. Each step will require a specific action plan. For example, if a committee is needed, who will serve, exactly what tasks will be assigned and when will the results be needed? • Monitoring and updating our plan. We'll review the strategic plan regularly. If we learn that our earlier ideas were shortsighted or uniformed, we'll update accordingly. What is Strategic Planning?
